Case of clear shin pad tape

Recommended Posts

I managed to go through a roll in one season (16 games) because my team mates kept on saying how I could spare some and they had forgotten theirs, as usual.

Andover clear tape. It's stealthy, it doesn't make a sound.

You will be very happy w/ Howies. Please give us your impressions when you've used it.

I bought a case of Howies clear.

I will never do that again. It's just not strong enough.

I wrap my shinpads up with it and by the first period the tape has stretched to the point of tearing. It sticks fine but it takes three/four wraps to make it strong enough to not fail. So I wind up using a roll twice as fast as with other brands.

I am pretty disappointed in the product. I like to try and support smaller guys like Howie's but the product is just not as good as other stuff that's out there.

I've heard good things about his laces but due to the poor quality of the tape I won't be giving them a shot.

Howies laces are Tex-style which is the OEM for Graf.

Howies cloth tape isn't bad at all. I cannot comment on their clear tape but I just wanted to clarify that their cloth tape isn't as poor as you feel their clear tape is.

Personally, I hate Renfrew's cloth tape but their clear tape is probably my favorite. Andover is great too but harder to find.

I've had my team in Howie's tape for 3 years and I've never had a complaint about either the cloth or the clear.

As far as their laces go, they are really nice. I just don't like that they have blue darts in them instead of black.

Now that the OP has placed his order, I'm gonna thread-jack a bit.

I was wondering about this quote from http://www.howieshockeytape.com/tips_blade.htm.

"Note: If you use Howies Hockey Tape wax is optional. Our tape has all the water resistance you will need."

I usually use Sex Wax over whatever tape the LHS stocks. Mostly to keep the snow off, but also for control. I find it hard to believe that unwaxed Howie's could compare.

To the MSH'ers that use Howies, how's the snow build-up?
