Elbow pads sizing.

Recommended Posts

Here's my problem. I'm a fairly short guy, so length-wise I need to wear adult size small elbow pads. Unfortunately, I can't get the size small straps to fit around my forearms. Until now I've been using Jofa 5044 elbow pads which have a giant non-elastic strap on the forearm that fit me with plenty of strap to spare. I would buy these pads again in a heartbeat if only I could find them being sold some where. What other options do I have?

I use 9144's now but before I went a size up with Bauer One55's and they were close. Easton ST16's were even better fitting.

buy 5044 or 9144 size M on ebay, what's the problem?

yes they a little bit longer but I think it would be OK anyway

Because finding that strapping setup is nearly impossible. Ever one I've seen on eBay recently has been the last gen of Jofa strapping, with the elastic band that velcros to itself. His are the ones with a nylon strap that is about 24" long that wraps around the elbow pad and velcros to the forearm.

I had a similar problem...according to my height (5'5") I should be using an adult small, but most mediums wouldn't fit me properly so I went to a large CCM V04 (from a year or so ago). Works out great because the pads cover all of my forearm. I say go up a size. Upside, it fits and you get extra forearm coverage...unless it hinders you in some way.

TBLfan is correct about the straps. I never see elbow pads with the same strap setup that I have on mine. Is it possible to have old pads restored?

Or is my only option to go for a larger size? I'm worried that going up in size will result in pads that don't remain locked in place. There's nothing I hate worse than having to readjust my pads after every shift.

I find it hard to believe that this isn't a problem for more people. I actually have this problem with most of my equipment. For example, shin guards with calf protection that never actually reaches my calf. At least with shin guards the strap still makes it all the way around my leg.

Ive had this issue as well, I had to shorten the straps on my g500 elbows I jsut cut the straps, shortned them a stitched them back. This is a fairly easy way to customize the fit of gear with straps also you can get new elastic straps at walmart in any shape or size and just buy the velcro any sew shop could easily fix this for very little money if you cant sew or dont have the equipment to do so, hope that helps alittle

What shin pads do you use? I've heard nothing but goods things about Bauer Pro Series from people who had difficulty finding a pad that provided the calf protection they wanted

The next gen after your Jofas aren't bad, those have the middle strap that attaches to the forearm. It's not as adjustable but it works well. Try the Bauer Supreme/Pro and Warrior elbows on, you might like those. It's kind of difficult for me to help you because I have large forearms and long arms.

You could try to restore them but it all depends on what's wrong with them. I've strongly considered modding my extra set of 5044s to have that strapping setup but haven't tried yet.

Try contacting HockeyRepair.com, they seem to be able to do just about anything. What needs to be fixed on them?

Rather than start a new thread... how about recommendations on elbows for skinny-armed guys? I have a pair of Stealth elbows and they are constantly sliding off. They are the right size, however, I have to strap them as much as possible to minimize the slippage. After games my arms have red marks from the straps. Despite this, they continue to slip off. I've had too many bruises and I'm looking to solve the elbow pad riddle.

Suggestions?

A friend of mine has a pair of Vector 10 elbow pads with the drawstring and loves them. He's pretty skinny and a bit tall so he uses slash guards to cover the gap in coverage. Kind of the opposite of me who's short and uses senior large elbow pads with a 12" glove (!!!).

Also, try putting the elbow pads on with your arm held out straight rather than bent, so that way the muscles are relaxed. That helped before I got new elbows to keep them from sliding around.

I have the same issue (skinny arms); however I just stumbled on a pair of Nike/Bauer Vapor XVI elbows at my LHS for $15. They are definitely waaaay more narrow in the forearm than Jofa's (I have a size 4 pair of 9177s). Extremely lightweight, too. Only problem for me was that the bicep strap is too long for me. That can be easily shortened though.
