Leafs 2010-2011

Apparently Burke has a few other deals in the works, one I keep hearing is Bolland and Skille from Chicago.

As a Hawks fan, I can't think of anyone on the Leafs I would want in exchange for those two.

I miss McCabe's howitzer going bar-down on the powerplay after a perfect feed from Kaberle. Everytime McCabe got the puck at the point, i would get excited. Why not you Dion...why not you? :(

Daryl Boyce after being checked into the glass where a photographer camera hole was.

Leafs centre Darryl Boyce suffered a gruesome facial injury, mainly to his nose, when he hit the photographer's hole in the glass in last night's game and didn't practice. Boyce is on Twitter and offered a look at the damage, but it's really not for the faint of heart. [Coach Ron] Wilson said at practice that Boyce probably wouldn't play in Buffalo, although he indicated to me on Twitter he hopes to be back in the lineup. "He's got some severe facial cuts," Wilson said. "But we're expecting him possibly to play on Monday [against Atlanta]."

does anyone else think the versteeg trade wasnt that great of a move.

He was playing well when he was playing, he was getting chances, had a decent amount of points.

It seems as though the First and third round pick are going to be late picks and this years draft isnt supposed to be the greatest.

The guy had wheels, good hands...i dont agree with this trade at all.

what are everyone elses thoughts?

Wow...the Leafs thread is dead here. Anybody think the team can actually make the playoffs? 6 points out now after the Carolina win tonight, but game in hand for Toronto.

they go out and play an amazing game, and then lay an egg in Florida...

I can't see this team making they playoffs if they are going to be inconsistnet like that.

I just hope Boston doesn't end up with a top 10 pick from us.

On a side note...I think the goalies in Toronto (Giguere and Gustavson) are getting a bad rap.

I think if you play either or they can get a good rhythm going.

Reimer is doing good in net as well...maybe they can give him and gustavson the reigns next season and see how they both do over a full season.

I still don't like Komisarek...I think he is the most over rated dman on that team.

Well, they're all but eliminated, but man it was a hell of a run! Nice to watch meaningful games (and see your team win most of them) at the end of the season. All I can say is that hopefully they won't need a playoff push next year - and if they play anything like they have the last 2-3 months, they definitely won't.

As far as what you said farhanshak about the Florida game... they played Giguere (mistake) and it showed. There was no confidence. But even then, when you consider that's one stinker of a game in what, 2 months? I don't think you can fault them too much. You couldn't even say they are inconsistent. Hell even the Wings can stink out an arena on occasion - just look at their game last week!

I'm not sure what they'll do with the goaltending situation. If the team truly believes that Reimer is a #1 guy (and most of the fans certainly do... I haven't seen a goalies name chanted at the ACC since it was "Eddie Eddie!"...), you have to wonder if they'll let Gustavsson go (trade, whatever...), and either re-sign Giguere or take on somebody like Ty Conklin to be a mentor. I don't think Toronto needs a two young goalie situation... they need a #1 and a veteran if that #1 is a kid. I know Gustavsson was supposed to be the future, but sometimes it just doesn't work out. Thoughts?

Can't wait for next season... it's finally a good time to be a Leafs fan again!

I would expect the Leafs to let Giguere and Gustavsson walk and look for that veteran presence to be a backup and capable fill-in if/when Reimer stumbles, think Dwayne Roloson.

I disagree that the Leafs won't be fighting for that last playoff spot next season. They still have some holes on the blueline and next season they aren't going to be able to sneak up on teams either looking past them to their next opponent or taking them lightly because of their struggles. I don't think next season will be as painful as the first half of this season for Leafs fans but I also don't think a playoff spot will be a foregone conclusion.

Agree. Roloson would be good. As I mentioned, Conklin would be a good candidate also (I think hes available, they were talking about him on HNIC the other night).

I think they'll be 6th-8th (they certainly won't be fighting for the presidents trophy or anything, by any means). Just think if they had gone .500 during that awful streak in october/november instead of .000... they'd be sitting ahead of Montreal right now. They are a FAR better team than they were 6 months ago, no question. Do they have holes? Yes absolutely. But Aulie has been good, and has been able to cover for the defensive liability that Dion can be at times (not to mention Dion is starting to play to his potential again).

Kadri is 10x the player after being called up again than he was when the season started. The AHL did him a ton of good. Phil has 30, Grabo and Kulemin will likely also have 30... Lupul has been a fantastic addition. MacArthur was a phenomenal pick up and hopefully they re-sign him, and Colby i think is my favourite leaf, besides Reimer.

All in all, I think they have what it takes to be a playoff team for sure, and POSSIBLY even a contender next year.

You might want to temper that enthusiasm just a bit. Can they be a playoff team next year? Possibly. A contender? No. Can they grow into a contender? Sure, but it won't happen by next season.

Also, they've got a lot of guys up for new contracts, some of them could be looking for big raises this summer including Schenn, Gunnarsson, Reimer, McCarthur, and Bozak. Then they've got Grabovski and Kulemin due new deals next summer. Gustavsson is still under contract for another season so that is something they'll have to work out, as well. Burke has a lot of work to do after this week.

All I'm saying is if they play a full season like they have the second half of this one, playoffs will happen. Forgive me if I've suffered this long and finally see something worth being enthusiastic about :P

Well, it's finally over. Hell of a run, though. If you had told me in November that the last week of the season would have meaningful games to be played, I'd have said you were crazy. I'm proud of the team, and can't wait for next season!
