It's a 2010 holiday paintjob Dolomite, and it would appear that he spray painted the bottom portion of it white.

Can definitely see how it might be tough for a goalie to pick up on his stick like that...

think it also works with poke checks and stuff, really tough to pick up just from looking at the pic

Not really, goalies can see the puck just as easy whether stick is white or black, tape color doesn't matter either. Still can see the puck. :-)

what kind of a person over the age of 12 paints their stick? what a dork

Lots of people. I'll spray paint a one piece if the paint is chipping badly. Look at Marty Havlat. His S19's are blacked out at the bottom.

It's way more common than you might think.

is it just me or does it look like he is skipping one of the sets of eyelets on the bottom of the lacing pattern

Looks like he's wearing lacebite/shot-blocking pads. The laces appear to be threaded through eyelets in the pads giving the illusion he's skipping skate eyelets.

True. But if Patrick Roy could be convinced that running over the right traffic cone would help him stop the puck, it's not a stretch that someone can say its harder for a goalie to pick up white against the ice and boards and someone might believe it.

Patrick Kane, Marian Hossa, Sergei Kostitsyn, Sean Avery, Pavel Datsyuk, etc. The list is long but distinguished.

I can see how an all white lower shaft might make it easier to find the puck in your peripheral vision when you need to.

I could understand if the concept was that it made it harder for the goalie to read if the stick was loaded or not. Or that it might not be picked up in the peripheral vision of a defender. These guys are looking for any advantage, no matter how slight.

I noticed this in his first game back from the suspension, and I was sitting behind the net they attacked twice and it caught my eye (or didn't in this case lol). It really has a great optical effect. If theres a ton of traffic, it can give the shooter an extra half second as the goalie might not see you letting go a wrist shot.

I've seen many guys paint the stick black, never seen white though. I'm thinking about giving it a try.

It also makes it harder for some people to pass to you. I did it once and had all my passes in my skates.

Billy Lindsay when Florida went to the Finals, Cliff Ronning...totally dug the white on their sticks.

Hossa doesn't paint his stick, it comes from the factory with bottom third blacked out. At least that is the way my Hosaa Bauer XXXX/Mission Fuel, and my Hossa Mission Fuel are. Just my two cents in case anyone was interested. However he probably use to paint his sticks.
