Total One Skate Issues

Recommended Posts

So I've had my Totals since the end of August, and after playing/reffing on them for an average of 3 times a week, I noticed that the texalium footbed, which is sandwiched between the holder and the bottom of the boot, has started to come apart. Is this considered "normal wear," or should I be looking to go through a warranty process.

Pics, if they help. Sorry for the size.

if it's really detached from the boot -> warranty

If it's just a little "nibbled" it doesnt really affected the structure, you must have scratched your skate against the balustrade -> nothing to worry about.

Maybe it's just me, but if you pay that much for skates and you've only had them for ~2 months, I'd send them back expecting a new pair with no such durability issues.

I had very similar issues with pretty much exactly the same spot!

From what I concluded (for myself anyways) it was from the boot 'caving in' at deep angles & scratching the ice.

I had it occur before in S15.

I personally atttributed the issues to decreased stiffness of the boot (as compared to MY One95 in which I never had anything like this occur), plus in my particular case improper fit (T1 being roomier then MY One95)

Upon a lot of reflection the reason I say 'MY' above is because I got One95 off ebay when they just came out years ago & not really sure whether it was a pro-stock or regular retail skate so my point of reference migth be skewed?! I happened to sell the skates before getting T1s & so couldn't compare them side by side, but I did compate T1s to One100 and it supported my observations.

Having that said as other suggested if it's just the outsole splitting then it's purely cosmetic, and as you break the skates in should stop.

on the other hand if it's outsole separating from the boot then I'd say it's a warranty issue.

You chewed off the edge while skating.

That's all, and definitely not a warranty claim.

The outsole is glued on to the skate, so it will be prone to gaps. It truly is not a big deal. If it bothers you that much, wedge some epoxy inside.

LOL might be true for a good old 30USD pair of used skates from playitagain.

Their customer service is solid, although they don't ship new pairs as easily as RBK/CCM

That's how the outsole wears. If you don't want the composite outsole you can either pay more for a custom without it or go for a lesser model.

That wear isn't enough for a warranty claim. Use some epoxy to fill the gaps if you really want to.

The thing is whether it is a detachment of the outsole from the boot or not. Since on the TO the outsole goes all the way, the footbed sits directly on top of the texallium outsole.

I very much doubt Stryker is that stupid to not differentiate that from normal wear. He didn't tell tho.

This is normal wear, no gaps and no need for epoxy

Its my opp, but I think baking or overbaking makes them that way much faster if not almost right away, both my 60's and one 100's ive had wore that way I did what jr said and just smeared epoxy in it just for peace of mind but it really didnt do anything my thought was thet it might help the water stay out

I know we get into this warranty/escalating price discussion regarding sticks, but it's ultimately up to the company to decide to warranty the skates or not. The warranty is offered, if he wants to attempt to make use of it, why not? If companies found that excessive warranty claims and any ensuing price increases hampered their profits, I would certainly hope warranty policies would be revised.

completely agree! Just work with your LHS to get this resolved.

I had previously posted about issues with my T1s, and since then the issue has been addressed to my satisfaction. It took a while, but it was a special case so all in all I'm quite happy with Bauer.
