Hey (former/current) TPS stick users...

Recommended Posts

I think I know what you mean. All of the R8s were Black and white, either 95 regular or 102 stiff flex and the curves were of the recent variety (Frolov, Afino etc.etc.)

The ones at my local Sportchek were definetly not the old R8s. I can't remember the exact wording, but when you flipped the stick over there was a referece to being manufactured/ designed by Sherwood.

Are the Adrenaline OPS sticks any good?

They're real good, I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure they're just repainted XN10s. I just bought my 4th Adrenaline and they're on the heavy side but other than that I love them

Well, not I am really struggling to find a Stick I like after using XN10s and R8s for so long. Tried One95, Se16, Dolo, U+, U+pro, S17, 10K. Nothing is cutting it for me. Think Its time to take a gamble on the T90s? Anyone have some insight? I pretty much exclusively used TPS for the past 6 years.

IMO, (and I've posted this before) the new, Sherwood made TPS R8's are very blade heavy. I was a huge TPS honk for a few years, using their sticks exclusively. I couldn't get enough. As any TPS user knows, the balance of their sticks was off the charts. Unrivaled and unmatched by any brand. That said, the new stuff doesn't even come close. It's a very awkward feeling stick. Like a brick tied to the end of the shaft. No life, no feel, and off balance.

No they have a Vibration dampening insert in the shaft. Never really played like the Xn10. At least thats what I thought of it.

I have to agree with that statement. After SWD bought TPS it's never been the same. I've used SWD woodies, and the like for my entire life (I'm 25, it's not that long but its a good place to start) and sherwood has never come close to TPS. I had a chance to take a crack at a couple "high quality" OPS's recently and to make a long story short, Unless you can get your hands on a 77 flex Bauer XXX, the TotalOne is the best stick on the ice today. Absolutely unbelievable. Who cares what the curve is, that stick just smokes the sh*t out of the competition. The s19 is a fantastic stick as well but nowhere near the x60 or TO. Wow. As a guy who grew up with the TPS rubber, TriCore, RedLite (r8xn10) the totalone is the way to go! I've also had good experiences with the reebok 6k (2007-08) and Easton s19, but the TotalOne is the best overall stick on the market today (gonna get a 2-piece, because its cheaper and thats what I grew up with) and the x60 is pretty damn nice as well. Allthough for me to go along with the bauer vapor hype and say that the x60 is a 'variable flex' stick would take another couple hundred shots. I'm very happy with my r6 response, 6k, and TO 2-piece choices. It took a while, but there are definitely some smokin hot alternitives out there.

bit more accurate. It all depends on where you like your kickpoint

Touche' again BJB, Yeah its a mid-kick stick. It just seems to suit me better than anything else out there. x60 is a low, s19 is a mid-low. All FEEL fantastic, I just like one a little better

I think that my s19 blows my x60 out of the water. It kicks harder, better feel IMO (It was hard for me to get used to the pingy feel of it) and the x60s slappers are kind of unpredictable. I took some shots with the totalone, and liked it. But I just prefer the slightly lower kick over the true mid kick.

majer hockey in Toronto had a rack of TPS "pro-stock" for their boxing day sale. About 1/2 where actual pro-stock but the rest looked and felt pretty much like actual TPS and they had R8 and R10. I'm not experienced enough with their product to know if they are from before or from after Sherwood bought TPS. I picked up an R10 to compare to the R8's I'm using and I actually prefer the R8 having a slightly heavier blade. Love the balance on either. The R10 is certainly easier to flex from about anywhere on the shaft.

If you're in the area it may be worth the phone call or visit.

Yeah its the r6 Response PTC in whip, Stoll curve (Lids clone). Like it a lot, should last a while too.

After one use, I was very impressed with my 11k shaft and blade setup. It's a little hard to compare it to the tapered xn10 shafts I've used. The flexes are different and it was my first skate back after a shoulder injury. The balance was great and the kick was nice. It's good enough to go into the rotation with my R9xn10 shaft/blade setup.

@bostonjuniorblackhawks - I thought the grip on the 11k was way too tacky when I first got it. I too it out of the plastic and let sit for about a month before using it. Maybe it's all in my head, but I found the grip to be less over-the-top than when I first got it. While it's still pretty tacky, it didn't bug me at all when I used it.

The old place had a TPS Response Pro (IC9 made in USA) and some Adrenalines (IC12 made in Canada). I picked up an intermediate Response Pro for $60 and it's pretty light and has decent feel. Shots had some good kick to them. Old Nash curve was a shorter open mid-heel I guess, not too bad coming from a Drury, at least my shots were lower from the point. I'm guessing since it's TPS this thing will whip out on me way too quickly (no whip flexes in stock) but it's kind of fun for the money.

If you liked the TPS R flex, as I do, the 90 flex Battleaxe BX10 is working quite well for me. I still have a few shafts in the closet though and I rarely break sticks. My problem is finding tapered blades that I like.

they changed the brand name to Monster now, but its the same stick.
