tsiarls79 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2010 Started the season with an 8 game drought. Then started scoring the next 3 games and even scored a hat-trick in game playing as a substitute player for a different team. Wouldn't you know it my team hasn't won since I started lighting it up, we're now 8-3-0, and the team I subbed for also lost when i pulled the trick. Makes me hate it sometimes. nexusrage21 1 Report post Posted December 16, 2010 After putting up 4 pts a game in the playoffs during the summer season championship run I have 0 goals and 2 assists heading into the playoffs again. I hope wearing a really awesome Christmas sweater to the rink tonight is enough to get me on track.
Agent1.8 1 Report post Posted December 17, 2010 O.K., well I was in a terrible scoring slump for the last 9 games. (I am usually a point per game/point every other game guy). Nothing was going in the net. I was hitting posts, missing the net by inches , shooting right at the tender's chest, you know the deal. Well, I decided to change my laces (don't ask me why). Wow, I thought I was the only one who did that! Switched to orange waxed Elite laces and they hurt my hands like hell, but I had a hat trick in the 1st period!! Bad news was we lost 4-3 lol
mug25 2 Report post Posted December 17, 2010 Snapped a little bit of a goal scoring slump tonight...netted two goals.Only thing I changed...my helmet. LOL I'll just say that it was good luck I guess. Played the best I've ever played since switching to Ice.
BCheetham93 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2010 A little preface to my story, I haven't put a puck in the net since late November (play junior b) and was looking for something to get out of my little goal slump. I've still contributed a lot in assists, but I've never been a play maker as much as a goal scorer. So, my buddy and I were driving up to TSR in New Hampshire (from RI) and I was looking for something to change my luck. I originally wanted new mitts, the black pro stock x:60's with digital nash palm. But, no luck =/. They seemed out of everything, since Christmas was a few days ago I figured they sold out of most things. But anyways, I ended up purchasing a new stick, I needed a new one anyways, as I have two Total ones right now, and my primary being cracked at the blade. I ended up switching from a P92 to a P91a, I've used it at practice before and liked it. Anyone know what the difference will be?Have you guys ever done this or changed sticks to get out of a slump? Hopefully it works, anyways, just food for thought. Thanks!
Hradsky 1 Report post Posted December 28, 2010 I hear a lot of people change little things to get out of a slump. TSR is the place to go to shop, I wish I lived closer to there :PWith a P91A your shots shouldn't go as high as they do with a Sakic. Your backhands should be better. Oh and your stickhandling should be worse until you get used to it. There is a much bigger sweet spot for shooting from a drury, so that's an advantage. mug25 2 Report post Posted December 28, 2010 Theres a huge thread about things we do to get out of slumps — trust me, ppl do a lot more than changes sticks...a lot of less expensive things too.Good luck though.

I've used it before and it seemed okay, back/forehand toe drags were a little off though. That's what I felt was off with my sakic, they were roofing over the net way too easily. Thanks for the insight though!

texspeleo 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 I've been in my own point slump for the last couple weeks. We were down 2-3 on Sunday night with 1:20 left, and I caught myself in some defeatist thinking (crap, we're going to lose; crap, we won't make the playoffs if we don't pull it together soon; crap, this team has beat us the last three times we've played this season; etc). Instead, I began thinking to myself, "You are going to get in and be the first to the puck in your zone. You're going to control the puck and do something meaningful with that puck when you get it." Kind of a mantra, I suppose. Anyway, went over the boards about :15 later on an icing call, they won the face off, and I charged in hard to pin the D-man in corner, stole the puck and fed my center, who stuffed in inside the R post. I've read a bit about the psychological aspects of the game, and I think your attitude has as much to do with it as ability. I'm fairly certain I talked myself into that play, and probably wouldn't have made the same move had I not consciously interrupted the little negative rant going in my head. Of course, I then missed the goal entirely in the ensuing shoot-out...
shotty 7 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 im in a slump myself, at the moment. im trying EVERYTHING aside from switching up equipment, which never seemed to work for me in the past... although i AM finding the glove wall more and more irresistible every time i get my skates sharpened.i just need to "go for it" next time i get the opportunity, as opposed to play my usual conservative style. in our last game, we lost 10-2, i was on for one of their goals and two of ours. probably the only player on my team with a plus rating. i usually get one great scoring opportunity every two-three games and i usually capitalize on them, but the game before last i had three solid chances. one hit the post, one deflected wide and the other went right into his glove. Like go for the deke or a more aggressive play? In my opinion shooting it is going for it. What I do a lot is I make a 2 on 1 happen, I have a clear shot but I just feel like I really should pass, because if I can make it happen then it's an easy tap in goal... I'm probably the best shooter on my team though, and the guys receiving the pass aren't exactly that great players (often times I hit someone with it in the slot and it just rolls of their stick) Yet I still don't want to be labeled a puck hog or anything on my team.I really should just say screw the other guy unless he's very wide open and just start sniping some goals. Had times playing pick up or beer league that we were just pretty laid back and I couldn't keep the puck on my stick or make a move or a pass to save my life. Ratchet up the speed and intensity a little and things clicked.... Guess my mind doesn't realize that my body is 20+ years older and doesn't move that fast nearly as often. bdh13 1 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 Probably not crazy, but I actually went to using a heavier stick (from One95 OPS to Easton ST shaft). The heavier stick seemed to make my stickhandling less choppy.
tareatingrat 4 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 Aside from the stuff I've posted before:I find that if I'm eating well and working out, I have all the stamina in the world, but I cannot score a goal or make a play for the life of me. My hands and shot are totally gone.If I start eating poorly and stop working out, my stamina drops off a bit, but I can easily put up a couple of points per game.So if I'm in a slump, sometimes I'll just gorge the day of a game.First hat trick I ever scored on the ice was after I ate this ridiculous upside down blueberry sundae thing about an hour before a game.Problem is, I don't want that to be a habit... :(
xFortune 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 Yeah, I've had that happen to myself before a couple times. But, what I would eat is a BK whopper. Yes, a whopper. Every time if I'm on a slump ~90-120 mins before the game.Us hockey players are weird in habits
nexusrage21 1 Report post Posted January 26, 2011 After having one of the highest scoring stretches of my hockey life in the summer seasons, I didn't score at all last season. (Actually I'm pretty sure I scored the first goal of the season, but they gave it to another player on the score sheet.) I break my stick and had to switch to another one, well I guess that was it, because I've scored GWGs in both games I've played this season, although according to the stat sheets I have none. (I don't know why, but I never get credit for my goals in this league)

NextBobbyOrr 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2011 Well, didn't get me out of a slump(Not really as slump, just a lackluster game). I switched sticks on the fly. We were on the PP, my other partner was chasing the puck so I tagged out my stick for the remainder of the power play. Didn't work at all, but the other guys got a laugh out of it.
