Who is making skates for a wide foot these days?

Recommended Posts

When I bought my last pair of skates (RBK 5K's back in 2006), I was told CCM and Reebok make skates which are generally wider than Bauer, Graf, Easton. They were right, the 5ks were a decent fit.

I go to a store today, and the guy tells me that CCM and Reebok have gone to a narrower boot, and that Bauer is making boots which are generally wider.

I'm wearing a stock size 9 in the 5ks. What's the deal with newer skates for guys with wide feet?

Thanks in advance.

Dunno what that guy is on, but RBK's are pretty wide through the whole boot. I can't remember what the CCM's feel like off the top of my head right now.

The Bauer supreme line is oversized, so it works for wide feet.

Grafs all fit different according to model, so no one answer for them.

Or the Bauer Flexlites are supposed to be quite wide.

In addition to flexlites eastons tend to run wider than other brands.

There are a lot of wider boots available nowadays.

The Bauer Vapors and Supremes are wider than they were in 2006. A much better product IMO

Graf has those 703 skates which are pretty narrow along with the old 704s, but the 709s and G70s are pretty wide and deep compared to most Bauer, Easton or Reebok skates.

The Bauer Flexlite 4.0 is pretty wide, but still a traditional "L" shaped last. Not as deep as some would like.

In my experience Flexlite's are certainly wider than Vapors, but it's not by as much as some people claim. I'd say Easton W is still wider than Flexlite EE, but I dont have any experience with Reebok.

Reebok E are narrower in the forefoot than flexlites and the heels are much wider than the FLs. Never tried the Reeboks in EE however.

So who's making high volume retail skates? Are the best options the graf 709/G70's?

I Bought a pair of Nike Flexlite 12's last year on clearance on ebay (size 11EE)... would never normally buy skates online, but I have almost zero local options, and the skates were only $50 or so. Anyhow, while the width is fine (might even be too big), the volume is a bit of an issue for me. I don't have a high instep... just fat feet and ankles.

It depends..I'd say the Graf G70s (moderate heel) and Graf 709s (wide heel) have the most depth if you absolutely need it...but it all depends on the foot too..You'd just have to try them on.

I was going to start a new thread but my question seems to fit here so I'll ask.

I have a pair of One70's in a D width that fit perfect lengthwise but are pretty tight across the forefoot. Like almost cramping tight. The heel however locks in nicely. How much wider would a EE width be in both the forefoot and more importantly the heel? LHS would have to order EE width and I don't want them to go thru the trouble without a good idea that they would work for me. Thanks for letting me ask my related question!

if the heel is perfect get them stretched first where it hurts.

I have very wide feet, especially at the midfoot, but a smaller heel. I tried a Flexlite 3.0 in an EE (and a half size too big) with no luck. It was a very snug fit and my foot went numb after a half hour of just sitting in my living room with them on. Besides the heel was huge! So how different is an Easton in EE (say an EQ30) than a Flexlite? There's only one LHS nearby, but they have very few options. I went today and their entire stock consisted of about 20 pairs of skates - and nothing even close to what I need. They're getting ready to move into a smaller building and are downsizing their stock on everything so anything I do with them would be a special order. I'm tempted to try a Reebok 11k but I'm worried about the heal being massive...

Try MLX. They make custom skates and they're on sale right now for $499. http://www.mlxskates.com/http://www.mlxskates.com/

I contacted MLX, but the sale to Easton has shut them down. They're only selling what they have left in stock and they said they couldn't help me. The stock skates would not fit any width larger than 103mm... The closest Graf dealer is 3 hrs away - is that my last hope before going full custom?

Bah. I knew I should have jumped on those awhile back. $599 sounds way better than $1000 for customs from another brand.

That is an option. So the heel would be how much wider on a EE? On the D width the heel locks in well, but might be a tad tight.

The heel on EE skates is a B width, as opposed to the A heel on the D skates. In other words, the heel is wider on the EE skates.
