Visor Fog

Recommended Posts

I have been using the same Oakly visor for the past few weeks. Cleaning it with only the Oakly AFR spray as directed with the proper cloth. Out of know where my visor is now foging up on me. What may be the reason and what can I do to fix this?

I noticed this as well with my oakley and chalked it up to differing humidity levels in different rinks. Better, newer rinks tend to give me the least problem which is why I came to that conclusion. I have no idea if that is true-it's just my theory. To solve the problem I have used Pledge furniture spray which is cheap and hasn't affected the visor at all so far and works the best. I also like the fresh lemon scent that stays with me for most of the game :)

My guess would be warmer weather and increased humidity, it happens here every year. If it wasn't an Oakley, I would suggest dish detergent, but Oakleys tend to go to hell if you use the wrong substances on them. You might want to adjust it so there is a larger gap between it and your face, it really helps me.

Pledge is one of the worst things you can use for an Oakley visor.

??Does it screw it up over time? It hasn't caused any issues so far. But I am totally hooked on the lemon fresh scent.

Chadd I think you may have nailed the answer to my issue. The weather has changed here pretty drastically and I noticed that the visor is all the way back. I'll try a simple adjustment of making a larger gap between as suggested and let you know how it goes. Thanks

Newbie here. I am really glad to see this thread.

I played my first game in a new rink last night. It was quite humid and my visor, which about 15 years old, fogged over completely. I would start each shift almost totally blind before the venting air would clear it... a little. Ugh.

My questions:

1. Are there any true "no-fog" visors? I see visors in the online stores that say "no-fog" or "anti-fog."

2. Is there any "trick" to keep my old visor from fogging? A teammate had some anti-fog spray but it didn't seem to help.

Thanks. And great website!

Most of the fog preventing sprays will do the trick for you. However, once you've sprayed the visor then you want to try to avoid wiping the inside during the game. Otherwise, you'll be right back where you started. If you find that you're getting fogging on the bench then one solution is to lean over the boards and get some of the cooler air from over the ice up and under the visor. This should help get rid of the fog.

Did you tilt your visor and helmet up to your forehead during an intermission? The heat from the forehead fogs up my visor when I do this.

Thanks for the tips. It sounds like maybe there's no such thing as a "fog-free" visor. As I mentioned, the spray I used didn't seem to help. Can anyone recommend a brand that works for them?

BTW -- Yes, I did tilt my helmet up on the bench and I noticed that it made matters worse. But the real problem was the humidity. To give you an idea, when I walked into the facility, I couldn't see the rink through the fogged up glass above the boards.

With all this being said, Tell me; How long do you wait to wipe your visor clean after applying new coat of spray to it.

I usually go every three ice times, no idea if it's too often or not often enough but either way works for me.

Dont think you understood my question. I wanted to know after you spray the visor do you wait a minute or so to wipe the spray/fluid off or do you wipe it right away?

Do while its still wet, you get better coverage.

Gotcha, instructions on the bottle say to spray and immediately wipe off so that's what I do.

From a guy who sweats and steams up his visor a ton, JR has posted a good suggestion of moving your visor further out. I have never found any cycling glasses, hockey visors etc..that remain fog free when the humidity goes through the roof if you generate a ton of heat from the face/head.

So I moved the visor out last night before hitting the ice and it did do the trick. No fogging issues what so ever. Thanks guys for all the help.
