New Wheels..CCM U+ CL Custom

Recommended Posts

I just picked up these skates today. Took about a month to receive them. Got the chance to use them on the ice today, feel good, feet hurt, but I haven't baked them yet. I got additional ankle padding as an option. However, the padding is more than I would have expected. The skates look super wide. They are only a "D" width. Do you think once I heat mold these skates the padding/foam will mold into the skate, making the foam appear as less? Anyways the skates turned out great and here are some pics. If anyone has any questions about ordering some custom cls feel free to ask.

What other custom options did you besides the extra ankle padding?????

One skate is a 9 1/4. Got a different tongue, top 3 eyelets reinforced, different color options, and then just a few minor things to do with comfort like adding in padding and such.

JR,yes, I did get fitted. What makes you think I didn't?

You started a thread that questions the fit of your custom skates. That is generally not a very good sign.

Bake them the right way and your eyelets should fold over if they are the right fit! Those things look so stiff around the eyelets! Freakin' straight up in the air!

Not trying to be a dick, but....You have a custom made skate for your foot, becoming even more custom after baking them and you skipped it and skated? Baking them will not do anything to the look of the skate.

If you don't mind me asking...where did you order those? I saw PSHG has the customizer for the U+ CL, but i did not see an option for the tuuks

CLs will close over your foot. I haven't done any custom CLs myself, but have done a bunch of Vapors and Supremes over the years and the fact that the fit isn't great is puzzling.

Definitely bake them though. The difference in stock boots is pretty ridiculous pre to post-baking.

My (non-custom) CL's were like that when I got them, they had no shape, just went straight up around the laces. Once baked the lacing area folded over and began to look like an actual skate shape. I really would not recommend using the skates again until you bake them because with how stiff of a boot it is, you will never be able to get it properly tightened pre-bake and it will not give you any foot wrap around the lacing area. Get them baked!

when you bake it, it should fold over the top.

Good to hear, It's not that I am having fit issues or anything it was just a concern I had with the skates. They fit great, after I get them molded they'll feel amazing.

As for the TUUKS. I ordered them through my LHS. The guy ordered just the boot, and received the e-pro holder and steel separately. He installed TUUKS for me for no extra charge, I'm guessing he would just use the brand new e-pro holder and steel for another pair of skates.

If you like the way they feel now, they will only feel better when you bake them. I bet you are excited to find out!

I like the option for the blue color. What other color options were available to you and was that included in the custom price or was there an extra cost for it?

You can get blue, gold, orange, yellow, green, or the stock red. And yes it was included in the price. The custom price of $100 included everything including color.

From reading other threads about U+ skates I know a common comment was that many shops do not heat them long/hot enough for a proper mold. Many people had a poor mold from a short baking, then got a shop to really give them a good bake and got a great mold after that. Just something to keep in mind, apparently these skates should be very soft an pliable when they come out of the oven if you want a really good mold.

Couldn't be more from the truth. If you heat them too long you will ruin the skate, and since they recommend 90 seconds(?pretty sure its that long without looking at them) I wouldn't go much past that. Definitely wouldn't do the 3 minutes ala the alive supremes.

There is no gold option.

For the stock skates, whether it be red, blue, yellow, green or orange, it should be that 600 price. If you want the customs expect a fee of anywhere from 25 to 100 more depending on where you go, most common price i've seen is 50.

For the custom skates, if you choose to have the number embroidered, all normal colors are available (white, black, gold, kelly, forest, navy, light blue, etc.) Its just thread that they are using for that so any normal color of thread they should have.

I just bought a pair a couple of weeks ago. The instructions say that the maximum bake time is 1.5 minutes. However, they come with a heat reactive sticker that you are supposed to put on the tounge that has three indicator zones and if the skate is in the lower zone you know it is too cool and you need to leave it in longer and if it is in the upper zone you know it is too hot and you need to take it out and let it cool before putting it on. Unfortunately, the LHS had apparently lost the sticker (presumably when they baked it for a previous customer) so I didn't get to use that on mine (I don't know why I didn't think to ask them to take it out of another box).

I just remember a thread where a TONNE of people were saying that their U+ skates (not sure if it was the CLs or possibly earlier models) barely molded when baked briefly, but molded incredibly well when baked for longer. Obviously you don't wanna go overboard and ruin the skate, and I'm sure any good shop employee would know the right amount of time to bake them for.
