D wodth vs EE - Is EE longer ?

Recommended Posts

Looks like in Bauer Supreme line if you go from a D to a EE in the same length skate ( like 8 d to 8EE) the skate is actually a little longer. Bauer puts a longer holder on the EE version of a skate and the footbed is also a 1/2 size up. I tried on a D and a EE at my LHS and the EE felt a smidge longer. My LHS didn't have the same skate a half size up to try so I am wondering if an EE of a skate a half size down is as long as a D width skate a half size up?

I tried the 8,5 in EE and D. The EE was lengthwise perfect but too wide and the D was lengthwise shorter my toes was crumped and the width was great so i tried the 9 D and was perfect size but not my shape. So i wait for APX. But i also noticed the difference between EE and D.

Possibility that y'alls toes are cramped because the skate is not as wide? These toecaps aren't square. The fact that the toe caps are pushing in on your toes VS the wider version letting your toes sit naturally could be causing this sensation that they are longer?

Presuming same model, same company, same model year etc; then yes, they are the same length.

However, what is oft misconstrued is that the length is different due to an obvious factor: your foot is the same width but the skate is wider. Thus..... your foot would sit further back in the skate in the ankle/heel area (because the ankle/heel is wider and, as such, not "pushed forward" as much due to the narrower area). Make sense? I can't quantify how significant this is, but its something to consider.

That does make sense.

I did compare the 2 footbeds and the EE skates footbed is a bit longer, and also the size of the footbed on the EE skate says 7.5 on the back while the D skate has size 7 on it. I have an old crusty pair of Missions that seem to be the about the same length skate whin eI hold them side by side, but the Missions have a narrow heel and I am sure because of that my foot doesn't go all the way back and my toes hit the toe caps harder.

Where exactly is the skate wider on a EE Bauer for example? Is it just the forefoot, or all the way? Is the heel and toe cap wider as well? If so, by how much?

The Bauer EE boots come with a B heel instead of the A heel on the D model. You can order an A heel on an EE boot (or B with D) but that is a custom order

I had a chance to hold both a D and EE width in the same size. Holding them both by the blades and resting the heel of the boots on the edge of a counter the EE is a tad longer than the D in the same size skate. I made sure to rest both skates in the same fashion and same angle.

Also did another experiment regarding heel width and how it affects how the skate feels like it fits. I tossed a penny into the heel of the D width skate and tied up the skate keeping the penny in the heel. It rattles around a bit so I know there is a bit of space left in the D width skate heel.

I know that EE width shoes are a tad longer than D width shoes of the same size, around 1/4 size difference. I guess the same applies to skates and explains why they put a longer holder on the EE skate.
