Lightest available shaft?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

What is the lightest available shaft today? I know that Easton S15 is very light (about 280g), but it's a 2008 model..

I'm looking for a standard (non-tapered) senior shaft.

Thanks :)

The S15 shaft is NOT 280 grams. Rated manufacturer weights and true weights are not the same thing. The manufacturer rates their weights to sell sticks for people looking for light weights, but those weights are most often not true. The S19 shaft is merely the S15 shaft repainted and it weighed in at 360+ grams.

The lightest standard shafts I've felt are One95 shafts (tapered version more so than standard). Word has it that Combat's current shafts are very light, but I've never held one.

The Bauer TotalOne and Warrior Bandito shafts seem to be around the 320 gram mark. I personally don't know of any standard shaft that will be any lighter.

You should be more concerned with blade-shaft balance than weight alone, I'd much rather have a heavier (weight wise) but balanced combo than a super-light shaft because the heavier blade (especially if you're using wood) throws the whole setup off.

Yeah, look at IceWarehouse....they always say the weight in grams....not sure how trusted they can be though. Most of those shafts are 350g+

If you can find an older TPS RedLite XN10, they are 250 grams.

I think the '10 version of the AK27 is about 280... at least according to this

http://www.hockeymonkey.com/warrior-hockey-shaft-ak27-sr-grip-2009.html

That grip peels easily, though. The older AK27s I have used also felt about as light as the RLXN10s.

That's what they were rated at, but not true. My RL XN10 was just over 300 grams and I know the AK27 is well over that.

Their weights are generally as accurate as it gets because they typically go by true weights measured on a gram scale, not manufacturer weights.

Thanks for the backup, I usually look around to buy stuff on other sites, then look to IW to see what the weight is.

what everybody tends to forget when looking at the weight given is the actual length of the shafts. The redlite may be only 250g but it is also significantly shorter than a one95 or TotalOne shaft. You have to keep that in mind, otherwise you will be sorely disappointed with your purchase.

No kidding?! My RLXN10 has 250 grams printed right on it. Might the extra weight be from the end plug, or are they just flat-out lying?

This thread is close enough to my topic. Does anyone have a list of Shafts that require tapered blades? I have a Total One P14 blade I need a home for. I was told Total one shaft is standard hosel.

Thanks

I guess I'm confused on the question. Are you looking for a tapered shaft to put a T1 blade into? T1 blades are standard

Of the big companies...

Tapered: 11k, x60, eq50, dolomite. Can't remember ccm..

Standard: 6k, total one, one30, x20, s19, st, AK27, crazy strong? There are some others.

Totalone blades are standard. So you need a standard shaft... when in doubt buy the same shaft as blade.

CCM CS is tapered, U+ 10 is standard

The Total One replacement blades are also standard hosel.

I've tried about every stick out there and the lightest I've ever seen was the old Christian "Torch Lite" one piece. It was made by Harrow Sports. Unfortunately the durability went along with the lower weight...

Those things damn near broke in shipping. They were nice enough to refund us for buying them though.

If you can find them, the tapered One95 shafts are also extremely light. I have one with an Easton SE16 blade in it and after cutting it only 2", it weighed in at 428g after tape. Granted, I don't use a ton of tape, but I have a small knob with 5" grip and cover the blade from heel to toe. They're also quite strong. I've been using a single one for about a year now and can be quite rough on mine when taking faceoffs. Broken two other guys' sticks during faceoffs when our shafts came together hard, but mine's doing great still.
