Looking for pic, but it was on 24/7

Biron's WC pads are Badass

I almost wish he was going to be playing. They do look nice.

Have to disagree on Biron. The retro look is faked really badly. The color doesn't look right.

Here is Bryzgalovs WC set. Real vintage.

Are the straps across the front just for looks? Or do the pad's straps actually run through the front like old school pads?

Judging by the picture, unless the straps don't run parallel to each other, they're just for show. They don't line up with the straps on the back of the pad.

Does anyone have an idea why Corey Potter of the Oilers was spotted using a retail totalone in his game last night?

Possibly ran out of his pro stock stash and didn't get a new shipment due to the holiday? Just a guess. I remember hearing this interview where Horton said he went and bought a couple of retail S19's during the playoffs. I can't remember why he said he did it though.

The Horton thing was for a slump buster I heard...Potter was injured for 2 months, that's how I don't think he ran out of sticks.

I don't know the full story on the shin straps.

They are illegal in todays NHL because the goalies are wearing their straps so loose that pucks can get stuck in them if it's the right angle. Now seeing as the WC is a regular NHL game, I don't know how Bryz is getting around this rule.

I assume they're just for show and don't actually have any performance value to them

I don't know where you got that they are illegal... but that is not why goalies stopped using them.

Straps through the front of the pads were useful when the pad was forming to the leg, but since now they are not nearly as form fitting it is not necessary and if you were to actually put straps through it would just make the blocking surface of the pad smaller by pulling the pad inward. The strap is often still used in the boot (on Reeboks and other brands) just because it doesn't have as great as effect down there, and closer to the skate can be valuable. Pucks can get stuck in the fake straps as well, but it is so rare that no one cares.

Also the Vaughn stuff doesn't look as good in real life as the Bauer stuff does. The Vaughn pads (Bryzs) look like they are trying too hard to be retro (the material itself not the design) while the Bauer retro material looks much more natural.

who really cares what the pads look like up close. on winter classic day in philly its probably going to be crappy weather anyways and nobody in the crowd would everrrr be able to tell what they look like up close

instead we sit on MSH and chirp byrz pads for not looking authentic? i think we need to chill

Straps running through the face of a pad are not illegal. Stop making things up.

Manufacturers have removed them because the design and function of goal pads has changed. Kudos to Vaughn for bringing the look back for the WC.

I was under the impression that the straps fell under this rule:

Knee straps must wrap around the knee build-ups and cannot come out behind or through knee build-ups.

I assumed this went for all straps on the pad. No straps can come through the front of the pad.

Philly will also get them.
