It's a weight belt. He started using it around age 15, says it puts his body in odd positions having it on just one side, helps develop better body awareness and helps strengthen some of the small muscles.

Seriously? He's a freak.

That's what I read in a local newspaper article a few years ago. There was a column on his training when he was back here for the summer one year.

I believe it started from a guy who noticed him at Andrew's hockey school in PEI when he was 14 and sort of became him training mentor around the time he went to Saint Mary's.

It amazes me what levels the elite will go to to be that much better. Truly inspiring.

not as inspiring as the brief argument about whether or not it was any of the following: added protection, heart rate monitor, vibration monitor, microphone and receiver, fanny pack.

What if it was all of those things in one. Now THAT would be cool. Surely, there's an app for that.

That's interesting to see. I haven't seen anyone in Eagle gloves yet this season, even the guys that have worn them in seasons past. As an aside, Eagle gloves were everywhere in the Yotes equipment room this preseason, but no one decided to wear them.

EDIT: Not to get too OT, I used to be a pretty big Eagle supporter/consumer. Wouldn't wear anything but Eagle gloves. But I just don't see enough differentiation in their fit and performance anymore to justify where they are priced. Even on the 'custom' level. That is not a knock, just a matter-of-fact assessment.

Warrior custom gloves, too. Just my 2 cents........

Check out Ovi's Frankenstein elbows. After switching over to Bauer equipment he's looking for the little bit extra wrist protection. Photo is from last night's Ottawa game.

Don't think its to do with specifically Bauer's gloves being un-protective, he always used to cut the underside flap off his gloves anyway & he's still wearing Jofa elbows.

Might be very late on this, but has Ovi been switching between TO and APX for his twig? Looks like it on getty.

Thus far that's how it appears. He seems to be one of the more pickier guys when it comes to sticks. Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up switching back in fourth all season, even mid game, depending on the situation.

I don't think those are Jofa elbows.

Those are Jofa 9144 elbow pads with a Jofa floating slash guard sewn onto the outside of the elbow pad. I have the same combo myself, but I still use the original velcro attachment to the inside of my 9144s.

I've always wondered what kind of pants those were. What exactly did he have added on to them?

Chest piece from an Easton S19 shoulder pad put on near the tailbone/lower spine.

Only problem MM is that those pics are from last season. From looking at the pics on Getty, I don't think they're still the Jofas. The strap and everything looks different.
