Raft 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2011 Absolutely amazing hockey player, lightening quick, great shot and arguably one of the greatest american born player of all time! Have a great retirement Mike!
Scotty 8 Report post Posted September 21, 2011 Sad to see it finally happen, but it is indeed time. He had an incredible run and will always be my favorite player. His leaning style with blazing speed and jersey flowing behind him is how we'll remember his playing days... skyscrape 5 Report post Posted September 21, 2011 I am glad I got a chance to see him play with the WIngs at San Jose last season. Still one of the hardest shots on the team. Skated fast when he wanted to. Only thing was you could almost see the regret that he played last season. It is hard to explain. Kind of like the body was there but his heart was still in Dallas. JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted September 21, 2011 He should've done it last year. Couldn't have been scripted any better then.
Scotty 8 Report post Posted September 21, 2011 He should've done it last year. Couldn't have been scripted any better then.I agree. Just a fairytale ending there, but I just don't think he was completely ready or sure.If it took this past season for him to realize it and really come to terms, then so be it. Regardless, amazing career.
psh 25 Report post Posted September 21, 2011 Modano was one of my favorite skaters to watch. Such a solid and pure stride. Absolute elegance. Zubov had that, too. For those years they skated together, I could spend stretches of just watching them skate as I disregarded the game swirling around the perimeter.
bagsbie 8 Report post Posted September 21, 2011 Solid, well rounded hockey player! Always loved to watch him play... HOF'er, indeed!

Scotty 8 Report post Posted September 22, 2011 Stars should retire his numberIt would be an insult if they didn't, as if it wasn't already a smack in the face to not let him retire there.
Krev 86 Report post Posted September 22, 2011 I think it's more a question of when, than what if. I also hope he gets his own banner, not that combined crap they have up there right now. Ideally, they'd also position a fan so it's flapping in the wind.
donkey87 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2011 It would be an insult if they didn't, as if it wasn't already a smack in the face to not let him retire there.Once the ownership situation is resolved I have no doubt that they will retire his number.

Krev 86 Report post Posted September 22, 2011 Classy move. I do believe he won't see the actual money from the deal because he's handing in the paperwork for retirement the same day, right?Edit: Nevermind, reread it. It's a ceremonial value of $999,999. chippa13 1844 Report post Posted September 22, 2011 One of the greats in the heyday of American hockey players, could have been a Bruin at one point if only players didn't hate dealing with Sinden and O'Connell.
Scotty 8 Report post Posted September 23, 2011 I'm watching his career highlights on the Stars website. AMAZING!!!I can't believe they have highlights from pretty much his past 10 seasons divided into each one. Being in St. Louis, I never got to see a lot of the Stars games, so a lot of those highlights are new to me. Only reinforces what an amazing player he was with ridiculous skill. Also, the NHL Network is doing a special on Modano on Saturday called Mike Modano: American Icon that chronicles his journey in the NHL. I swear it had better be available for purchase or download afterwards because I don't get the NHL Network.
