CaptainFantastik 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2011 On those occasions I go to stick n' puck i'll wear full pads from the waist down just so my lower body is protected from errant sticks and pucks and from the occasional fall. For pickup/beer league games i'll wear everything but shoulder pads.
Vulcan7905 88 Report post Posted October 9, 2011 I always wear full pads every time I go. Why not get used to it since you'll be playing in it for a game anyways?
rdmt83 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2011 I always dress full pads regardless of whether im playing a pickup or league game and even for open stick. A really hard slapshot to the chest could conceivably kill you and at the very least its gona bruise pretty bad or maybe break some ribs...Why take the risk? also an awkard fall into a corner and you could seriously injure yourself even with shoulders on nevermind with no protection at all
maxamillion 3 Report post Posted October 9, 2011 I've taken too many errant everything everywhere to not wear full pads at this point. even cheap shoulder pads are better than nothing!
texspeleo 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 I've been messing around at a couple drop ins or sticks and pucks where I've lost an edge and gone into the boards hard as well as collided with other players that aren't so great at stopping or not paying attention into a turn. Silly way to ruin a season...
pbhockey4 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2011 Wearing a hockey helmet is a must because you can fall and really damage your head with you hit the ice or get hit by a puck.

Jarick 5 Report post Posted October 21, 2011 Yep. Luckily I play in drop ins that are lower level so there's no competition to see who can go with the least amount of gear on the ice.For stick and puck I wear the helmet/cage, elbows, gloves, and Volleyball knee pads under some sweats. illkins9 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2011 i wear everything but minus shoulders when its just a light scrimage, some open days when its crowded and with certain players there its a good'idea to wear shoulders but i try not to. i also echo everyones reasons for wearing full gear at alltimes
wrangler 157 Report post Posted November 12, 2011 I've always worn full gear, and had times I fell down where I was glad I had it. Other times, like today, shoulder pads have helped when guys tried to skate through me to get the puck when I was stickhandling it to my other side (yes, it's "no-check"). Same guy, 3 times today, at an open hockey session where no one else does that. I was glad I had shoulder pads for him to bounce off.
modsquadder3 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2011 all the time! i feel like i get better practice when i have full gear on. even having shinguards with socks on puts my mind at ease, since i've cut myself once already.

romdj 26 Report post Posted November 28, 2011 I'm so undecided right now, because my shoulder pads are fairly new, u+ pro's one, and they are stiff to me, I need to get used to full equipment since i'm still a little new to the game, and my abilities are much much better without equipment because I'm obviously lighter and smoother. But as soon as i put my full equipment on, i feel likea huge robot, I can't see, move and skate as much, everything, every single aspect of my game is worse. So I think I'll be wearing full equipment for a while now to break it in and adjust to it. because.... I really want to get better ^^Plus I take public transportation, and if you saw the faces and looks i've had when people look at me travelling with a huge bag in the bus metro and all. ah well..
