TPS Rubber -vs- Ultra Lite -vs- Grip Lite

Recommended Posts

Few questions...

1) What is the difference between the Ultra Lite and Grip Lite? Easton's website SUCKS.

2) If you had your choice between the TPS Yellow Rubber, Easton Grip Lite, or Easton Ultra Lite, which one would you choose and why?

3) Out of the 3 aforementioned sticks, which one performs the best?

4) Which of the 3 sticks is the most durable?

Thanks a lot.

Grip Lite just has grip added

2) If you had your choice between the TPS Yellow Rubber, Easton Grip Lite, or Easton Ultra Lite, which one would you choose and why?

Grip Lite; durable, has grip and is just one of my favourite shafts.

3) Out of the 3 aforementioned sticks, which one performs the best?

Ultra Lite and Grip Lite in a tie

4) Which of the 3 sticks is the most durable?

Grip Lite is a beast and so is the Ultra Lite

Do you have any opinions on the TPS Rubber compared to the UL/GL?

I'd pick the Ultra Lite over the Rubber and Grip Lite. I have a TPS Rubber myself and I personally hate the Grip sticks. The Ultra Lite is a pretty fine choice since it's probably the best Easton non grip standard shaft you can get besides the regular Z-Bubble.

Durability is a major concern for me.

Well from personal experience. I played spring hockey last year. This kid took a slapshot and his Z-bubble grip with Focus flex snapped in half. This guy on my team had an Ultra Lite and it lasted him the whole year.

I heard that the TPS Rubber was the most durable shaft on the market, but it lacks in performance, not sure if this is true or now. How is the durability of the Ultra Light compared to the TPS Rubber?

Accord-

I've used Rubber shafts and just didn't like them as much as the UL or GL. It's a good shaft; durable and I like the grip, but it has a tendency to wear off and tear up gloves.

Ultra Lites and to a lesser extent, Grip Lites have been known to be tanks. For a long while, the UL was the preferred shaft in the NHL, and I believe some guys STILL use it (Kariya etc.). I still have one from back when they were painted brownish with the old rectangular Easton and Ultra Lite logo - circa mid '90s, and still have not broken it...in fact, it looks almost new, except for the lower 1/4 where it has some minor scuffing due to stick battles.

Give the UL a shot, and if you like grip, the GL. They should not disappoint and are still among the lightest shafts on the market.

EDIT: My personal preference however lies in an 1100. There are a multitude of handle and grip options as well, so you're sure to find something you like (pending availability at your lhs). Good luck!

Grip Lite would be my choice from the ones you mentioned. Basically you need to determine the flex you want and whether or not you want grip. From there it'll be easier, but the Lite line has been great to me and i'm thinking of giving a UL another shot. I've used all of the shafts you mentioned, I liked the Rubber, but never tought it was more durable than other shafts, I had problems with the grip peeling.

Well in my experiences with the UL its a beast, i tend to be a bit of a stick destroyer ive went through a Vapor 5 and a Vector already this year, anyways i couldnt break the UL but i sold it to a friend when i first got a Rubber which broke 3rd game i used it in, but i would go with a UL

P.S. yesterday i went to my LHS and was looking for a new shaft i was going to buy the UL but the TPS Genesis was on for $10 cheaper so i bought it.

Old ass thread. Holy cow.

I may or may not still have a couple Grip Lites floating around in my basement.

Just gave a grip lite to my buddy who's making a comeback after a 15 year layoff.

Technically, that is still a step up over whatever he used to use.
