If You Could Change/Fix 1 Thing About Your Game/Ability What Would It Be?

Recommended Posts

Forward skating: If I could tight turn to my left (but i can crossover that way) and crossover to my right (but i can tight turn that way).

Backward skating: I can tight turn and crossover to my left but not right comfortably.

Stickhandling: Keeping my head up while going full speed with the puck, I can go about 70-80% with the puck, anything other than that, the puck will wander off the blade.

Shooting: my shooting is good, but deflections are piss poor.

I also have a long list since I never touched a puck before my mid-twenties.

But I guess Skating would be my first thing, especially backwards.

be more aggressive with the puck. i am a high percentage play kind of guy, sometimes i wish i would take more risks and create more space for myself.

For me it would be better awareness on the ice....that intangible "hockey sense" that some people have that puts them in the right place at the right time...that and better hands...

Hands, not even that they're bad, but wish I have more Dats like moves.

Have a Jordan Staal like playing style, which was great as a second line center in High School, but now that I'm just playing beer league with some older guys, speed is not as important.

My hands!

You and Ron McLean: legs of a champion, hands of a bricklayer!

Goalie: Lateral Motion

Shuffling or T-pushing, or both?

Moving at high speeds through traffic.... If i try and stickhandle my way around defensemen, I feel the need to glide or at least slow down. Most of the time it works, but the better defenders always take the body on me or strip the puck.

My hands. I have to practice constantly to do what comes naturally to some. Second would be skating.

I'm a strong enough skater, but it really becomes apparent how bad my hands are when I start going full tilt and keep losing the puck.

However, if I were a better skater, it would probably help my stickhandling in terms of protecting the and making quicker turns/starts/stops.

It is like you have seen me play! HAHA! It is sad! My hands are not that bad unless it is a game situation then the puck anxiety sets in! I just point and shoot!

Easily would change my skating abilities on crossing over(with power) starting, stopping and using my weak side of my skating more to my advantage. If I could match my strong side skills, it would definitely take my game to another level!

My patience during league games. During open hockey I feel very loose and confident. I'll take my time with the puck, keep my head up and always be looking around o either make a move or make a pass. But during games I feel like my confidence takes a bit of a plummet and the game seems to move quicker and I catch myself being rash with the puck. I'd like for the game to be as "slow" for me psychologically as it is when i'm just playing open hockey. If that makes any sense.

This is the puck anxiety I feel in games.

My foot speed/agility. It was the reason I didn't get to play d1 hockey. I worked on it at the time, just could never get it fast enough.

Close behind that would be hockey sense.

The one thing that I wish I could improve would be my hands. Unfortunately, I have hands of stone, but they are getting better ever so slowly. Another thing that I need to improve upon is my breakaway moves. Because of my speed, skating ability and hockey sense I usually can average at least one breakaway a game if I'm on. In shinny/pick up games I am a lot better with the breakaway. However, in the game situations I just kind of panic and don't take the time to really look for shooting holes or to use the best move.
