2012 Bauer Hockey Catalogue

http://www.modsquadh...ckey-catalogue/

Skates - Starting with the Nexus line, which is new for 2012 and will be available in October; the Nexus' purpose is for an updated-tech skate that still falls under the traditional mold. The fit will be deep - deep volume, deep heel; somewhat a cross between Flexlite and 8090; those skate wearers should be very happy. Also, the Nexus will be a more forgiving skate than its Supreme and Vapor counterparts. Nexus will start at 1000 and go down to 800/600/400/200.

Supreme also changes for 2012; the nomenclature changes to ONE.9/8/7/6/5/4. The TotalONE is replaced by the TotalONE NXG - new graphics package is evident, but there have been a few new/updated features; the tendon guard is new; it is more streamlined and the boot is cut appropriately, allowing for more range of motion from its predecessor. Also, the 3Flex tongue has been tweaked; the inserts now have "wings" on it for additional protection (the new inserts will also work on the previous TotalONE). Now, the tweaks not mentioned in the catalogue; the top part of the 3Flex tongue is now plastic instead of PU; in the TotalONE it had a tendency to stretch and not hold the insert correctly. Also, the issue with those having the liner wear out around the eyelets has been addressed; it had to do with the tongue construction. The liner is the same as the TotalONE, but by tweaking the tongue in the NXG, that issue has been addressed.

Also, it is no longer ALIVE; it is now Curv Composite, which is a trademarked product.

Vapor no changes for 2012.

LS3 is now available at retail.

Sticks - Supreme and Vapor are the same since Holiday 2012, but new line in the Nexus. Now, the G3 was a particular flex profile that was only offered at pro; not any custom-mapped flex profile (it was actually a revision of a stick that didn't end up being the final product.) The Nexus gets the flex profile from the G3. And what that flex profile is, is a mid flex stick; the stick is soft in the handle and the taper, and stiffest in the middle, very similar to what a wood stick would feel like during a shot. The Nexus 1000 also has their Elastech treatment which is also found on the APX (resin with nanotube reinforcement) and shares the same Power Core 3 blade as the TotalONE.

New pattern in the P08 Ovechkin, which is Ovechkin's legal curve (shhh); will be made-to-order on the APX and Nexus 1000 and a stock pattern on TotalONE. Also P92 comes in a lie 5 on the 1000/APX/TO.

Helmets - New for 2012 is the Bauer RE-AKT helmet; the shell is modeled from the 4500 so it has a sleek and streamlined look to it. A lot to do with the streamlined look is that the adjustment system has been relocated from the side to the top of the helmet. With that gained space internally, there is a block of Poron XRD padding along both sides of the helmet. The occipital lock system is now a single lever (as opposed to two on the 9900). Also, the foam they are using for the helmet is not EPP; but Vertex, which is a lighter foam but has better impact properties than EPP according to their testing.

But the story they are trying to tell with RE-AKT is that the helmet will help with rotational force during impact. The Suspend-Tech liner is a Poron liner that is attached on all sides of the helmet; it floats within the helmet. So, during impact, the liner moves independently from the rest of the helmet, keeping everything in relative place.

New cage in the RE-AKT; titanium with a Poron chin cup at a very affordable pricepoint.

Visors also have been tweaked - they feature HDO Optics (which is an Oakley technology). Also, new visor in the HDO Pro-Clip - the Pro-Clip attaches to the helmet first and then the visor snaps into the clip - similar to the Itech Quick Click that was on the Deluxe visor.

Gloves - Vapor with the changes for 2012 - notable changes are Aero Foam in the APX glove for a 20% weight reduction, and in the APX, new palm; the absorption pad has been changed (it's now embedded in the palm) and X-Static silver fibers to help with odor.

Protective - Supreme goes unchanged, however new lines in the Nexus and updated line in the Vapor. The Nexus is what they are billing as their maximum protection line; the shoulder pads have no variance in padding in the chest - it is EPP-reinforced throughout. The elbow pads are also EPP-reinforced with a poly forearm guard (same as what is in the sternum/spinal area of the shoulder pad) and the shin has the same EPP/poly insert on the calf wing, along with adjustable single straps (the shinpad has 4 slots, or the straps can merely be removed). Very Jofa-esque.

The APX line still features Vent Armor inserts in strategic areas, but one thing that has been done with the shin pad is very interesting - the bottom of the shin is hinged, which allows for better range of motion as well as having the pad sit correctly on the knee/shin when flexed.

Quick question - on page 67 it says the Bauer 4-Roll Pro glove is new...what was the change for this year?

Thanks

No change. It's the same page as last year's catalogue.

When the Nexus line hits stores, gonna try them on to see how they compare to CCM skate fit, hoping its similar so I can have more skate choice for my next pair. Like what Bauer is doing for its product line, outpacing the competition IMO.

The Nexus is a nice fit; very supple. I threw on a pair back in October (didn't skate in them even though I had the option to) but yeah, it's definitely a deep fit.

The hinge looks interesting. How far down the line does it go? If it is identified by the red color, then it looks like just the APX and X 7.0. Is that right?

APX and 7.0 only is correct. Interesting idea for a defenceman thinking of wearing a pad an extra inch in length over the front of the tongue of his skate, too.

Titanium cage... hmm. Is this the Itech TI that was popular(but expensive) a few years back rebranded or something new to go with the Re-akt helmet?

SO look to October for the release of the sticks and protective as well as the skate line? It will give me some time to save for a few MTO sticks. I like the look of the skates. I dig the flex point on the APX shin pads. It all looks good to me. Love the graphics package on the Nexus!

Wow a lot of great stuff coming from Bauer. I really like the look of the re-akt helmet especially the back. It looks like a deep fitting helmet though. Hopefully it fits. For those who've tried it can you compare the fit to any current helmet?

Hey JR on the other thread you said you see a potential issue with the re-akt helmet, could you share this problem?
