IPv6Freely 2100 Report post Posted February 22, 2012 Unfortunately, with the retail costs of high end sticks in the $200 range, I'm sure it makes it more attractive for unscrupulous folks out there to get into the counterfeit game with sticks. I'm betting people will stumble onto more fake sticks in the future.I bet. I mean, my current fave stick is a hockeytron 405... god knows which chinese factory they bought THOSE from! chippa13 1844 Report post Posted February 22, 2012 Not exactly the same since they aren't trying to pass it off as some other top end stick.

AfftonDad 88 Report post Posted February 22, 2012 Just curious, does anyone know... are these counterfeits typically the work of crooked people at the same factories that produce the real ones or are they done completely external... not that it matters much because if the weave is different it is most likely going to play differently and it definitely won't have a warranty... I was just wondering because it seems like the big companies would be able to better control it, i.e. with threats and sanctions, etc. against their manufacturing "partners" if it is coming out of the factories they already work with than if it is a completely outside job. Apes44 7 Report post Posted February 22, 2012 Threats and sanctions in China? LOLlook at those fake jersey sites, the feds shut them down in the US and a week later same company is back up with an S and the end of their name!Only thing is if people stop buying them all together but there will always be a market for "cheap" knock off products
JR Boucicaut 3805 Report post Posted February 22, 2012 Wow that's pretty awesome that Easton is on here :)Every manufacturer is.
AfftonDad 88 Report post Posted February 22, 2012 Threats and sanctions in China? LOLI fully understand that there is a huge counterfeit industry in China. That's why I was distinguishing between an inside job and an outside job. I work in the electronic displays industry. Virtually all commercial (and many military) flat panel displays are made in China. Our customers include all of the usual suspects, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Sharp, LG, Samsung, Apple, Motorola, AUO, BOE, Foxcon, Innolux, etc. These companies are either Chinese mfgrs or have Chinese mfgrs. I can assure you that these companies frequently do take precautions and take actions and put the fear of god into their mfgr partners. A worker at Foxcon actually committed suicide because he "lost" a prototype iPhone for fear of the repercusions he would face. All they have to do is threaten to reduce or pull production from a factory and move it elsewhere to get what they want. And they frequently do.I guess I probably answered my own question though... must be an outside job (complete counterfeit) or Easton would have done something about it with the manufacturing partner. If they pull production from that plant they can kiss any of the molds goodbye and the factory will just ramp up the knockoffs and sell them to someone else. With or without changing the logos. goblue9280 33 Report post Posted February 22, 2012 It's one of the costs of having your manufacturing operations in China. Weak IP law enorcement leads to spending millions on legal fees trying to get Chinese courts to enforce the IP laws.

With or without changing the logos. That and the retooling costs for setting up the new factory and lack of guarantee that the product will come out the same/be of lesser quality at the new factory. As its been said, its one of the risks of producing in another country, like China. Best thing a company can do is educate the consumer and prosecute who you can within US Jurisdiction. JR Boucicaut 3805 Report post Posted February 23, 2012 Must've changed - I don't own a RS. I knew the S17 and S19s were Chinese-made. Looks like they moved production back to Mexico. Thanks for the clarification. I was wrong.

They owe me EVERYTHING!Maybe I forgot to enable sarcasm when I replied But Easton, in all seriousness, if you'd like to compensate me for a fake stick that I didn't buy I'd be more than willing to accept your kind offer Anyways. The guy got back to me & claimed that it was bought from a LHS & he got it cheap, hence the cheap price. He says he'll have some normal ones fairly soon but they'll be more expensive
