HockeyButt

Did I buy the right pants?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

New here and fairly new to hockey.

Took a pretty good fall on my back during a friendly game.

Immediately knew I was in trouble.

Bruised my tailbone, blamed my pants.

Ran out as soon as I could walk, to search for the most

Padded and protective pants I could find.

Settled on Tackla 5000 pro pants, made in Canada.

While the tailbone is not as mattressy as I was hoping it would be,

These are the most padded I found. Supreme total ones were great looking,

But thinner. I was told that most people don't want cumbersome and thick pants.

I'm female, 5'5", 110 lbs. Not macho and nothing to prove.

So the more padded the better.

Please tell me if I made the right choice!

I'm a firm believer in buying some of the most protective equipment u can find, since I play beer league hockey there are players of all skill levels and there always seem to be the one or two guy who Arnt the best at stoping( we have all been there at some point, and I have absolutely no problem with player of lower levels being out there doing there thing), go into the corner and fall and u go down to in an weird way and bust and elbow or a tail bone, so as far as I'm concerned u made the right move, and maybe consider beefier elbow pads to!

Agree with mojo. A quick search of 'Tackla' on these boards will yield enough info on them. As long as they are sized properly, you have made a good investment that should last for quite a while.

If you find the pants are still not protective to your liking in that area. you can probably stitch some foam or other impact absorbing material there for extra protection. That way, you not only have a great pair of pants (Tacklas) but also have the exact protection you want!

Hello all,

I did search Tackla and did find good reviews. But I got a lil scared cause one guy was saying he was very disappointed in his Tacklas.

But I have a feeling those may have been the USA version. I saw some of those Thai-made versions in the same store, and it was like night and day.

That's a good point, Axxion... Very good point. Excellent point actually. I can pimp these pants if need be!

It was hard to get my size. I was a bit too tall for Juniors and a bit too thin for most seniors. But these Tacklas are a 46" and with the laces and the belt, I am

able to cinch them quite snug. They seem to fit well. I guess I'll only know for sure once I try them.

Thanks for all the input. Glad I made the right decision. (These pants didn't come cheap!)

You could always try practice falls at home on the carpet, to test the padding. If you're not satisfied, you could then return them without wear.

That might have been me. The disappointment was in stiching coming undone (quality) and they were the Thailand made 5000's. I did however love the level of the protection the pant provides.

No it wasn't you... It was someone saying the tailbone protection wasn't as good as he would have liked. And I tend to agree. As I said, it wasn't the mattress I was hoping it would be.

But, as mentioned above, I can add some more to that area if I find it's not enough. And seems like most people want as little protection as they can find. So I guess I'm not the norm.

I tried my pants yesterday for the first time, and I really liked them. I didn't enlist the help of the tailbone pad, but they fit really snug, and I felt confident in them. Even got a puck to the back of the leg and

didn't feel it.

I'm very pleased. I've only owned one other pair of pants prior to these, and it's a world of difference. These actually fit me, for starters... my other ones were way too big in the waist. And these guys

seem very sturdy. Likin' 'em a lot!

Oh, and the idea of practice falls was just not appealing to me, because I'm still in pain back there!

Thanks for all your help, everyone!

I had a pair of "Made in Canada" Tacklas, and they were my favorite pants ever...alas, they got too small for me as I aged and expanded a bit...I am now in a pair of Nick Grosman's Easton pro-stock (very padded...especially in the thighs) pants, and for my money, I'd go with the Tacklas again if I found a pair big enough. My wife found herself in the same boat as you though. She liked the feel of the Tacklas, but being 5'8" and only 128, she could neither wear the adult smalls (too big) or junior XL (too short). We finally settled on a pair of Reebok 11Ks and in adult small and , while they are adjustable for length, they are still a bit too big for her waist...suspenders do help that though.

Hmmm... Well that would mean that mine are too big for me... size 46... Since I'm 5'5, 110. But I don't find them too big. That's strange. I'm able to

tie them tightly around my waist. They were snug and weren't going anywhere...

I'm no pants-fitting expert however.

The length seems ok, and they were tight around my waist.

That's what counts, right? Those are the 2 main things to look for?

No need to worry about how it fits someone else, when you already know it fits you.

If you like the waist and length, the protection, and your mobility in the pants, I don't see a problem.

I guess my 'concern' is because I also thought my other pair fit me ok, until I learned a little more about fit.

Only then did I realize they were too big in the waist and too short in the length.

But yes, I'm being a bit paranoid, I s'pose.

I do love them!

Pants can be funny. Two people people who are close in hieght and weight may wear two different size pants. Sometimes it comes down to body shape.

If they fit you, don't question it. You'll end up convincing yourself they don't and end up shopping for another pair.

^ This! Great advice. I don't think it was so much the actual sizing of the Tacklas my wife did not like, but the fact that she had a pair of the old RBK 6Ks with the girdle-style legs (adjustable / wrap-around style) and she wanted something similar and thus, ended up in the 11Ks. She probably would have liked the Tacklas better if their higher end pants had been available here in her size.

my height and weight suggest i am a CCM pant medium, but i tried them on and felt like i needed a spandex top to match.

I wear CCM fit09 pants and feel they give me a good level of protection for my play, but its all personal. The president could balance the budget, cure cancer, generate world peace, and give us all a year tax free, and someone would still complain that he laid off the tax preparers.
