What Should I Get?

Recommended Posts

I am going to be attending Mizzou in the fall where I will be playing club ice hockey and need to get new pants, gloves, and a new helmet. Their colors are black and gold primarily but their third color is grey. I am more of a Bauer And Reebok guy but I'm open to all ideas. What should I get for the most unreal sty?!?!?!?

Helmet will depend on what fits you. Don't get hung up on a certain brand. Go to your LHS and try helmets, pants and gloves on. Go with the ones that fit YOU the best and YOU find comfortable.

if your going for style the answers are pretty easy

helmet: black 4500

gloves: black 4 rolls, although black x60 pros are pretty nice

pants: total one girdle, or total one pants are both very nice depending on the fit you want. the total one pants

have a removable piece where you can get your logo stitched on

Thanks for the input... I have a reebok 6k helmet now and would not want to have to buy a new cage. Should i put the reebok cage on the 4500 or get a different one????

Always been a fan of the 480 cage with 4500 setup, used that combo for years before going visor for beer league.

Agree with hook on this one. I have the 480 cage on my 4500 and love it.

A little away from what you're looking for, but an older gold/black AK27 non-grip shaft would be pretty sweet with the teams colors. Might not be the easiest thing to find, though.

+ 1 for Bauer 4500 helmet

I would also get a 9900 cage.

Reebok pants are great and so are the tackla's

I'm really big on the TotalOne gloves... Very protective and comfy

Whatever fits. Brand is irrelevant. I love the look of Bauer 4500 but they don't feel nearly as nice on my head as the CCM V10 I wear now.

More so with helmets than any other piece of equipment, other than skates, it's all about feel. Forget looks.

but optimus if you don't look good you won't play well... sarcastic post.

seriously though If I were in your shoes B-Mar unless they don't make it anymore buy what exactly what you are wearing now in the colors you need. Stick to what you know and what you are used to. Not what we know and what we use.

I know your post was sarcastic, but IMO how you look can affect how you play. I know it makes a difference for my game. Hockey "fashion" is part of the game--just the same way fashion is a factor in golf or tennis.

theflash I can agree with you on that. If you don't feel good in your equipment in can have a major affect on how you play. I am more so poking fun at some of the people who will buy equipment that doesn't fit them right because it is what everyone else is wearing. I played pick up with a kid who wore a cage that was far too long for him and I heard him bragging on the bench about how sick he looked and "how much hang he has" And all i can think to myself was you sound like a douche. I think Bauer 4500. 7000, 9900, RBK 6k, 7k, 8k, 11k, CCM V08 and V10's all look like pretty nice looking helmets. My point in that post was just because hook and I think 4500's look nice with the 480 cage is no reason to run out and buy that set up.

Bauer is the way to go. The 4500 bucket is light in weight, even when you are sweating. As for pants, I'd go with Bauer's girdle. It's light in weight (common theme here) and allows for more mobility. The only problem that I had was that the padding was always falling out. As for gloves, I've had Eagle for 6-7 years now. Real comfortable but can be some what bulky. Enjoy.

There is a difference between your gear being comfortable and making sure you buy the brands/models that are currently en Vogue.

100% agree. Figure out what fits first, then if you're left with multiple choices, pick based on whatever you want (looks, price, etc.)

Not sure which I find funnier, this line or the fact that you believe it.

I agree. Dress game is important. I just go with what is comfortable first then looks second. When one gets the opportunity to play college hockey at the club level (ACHA), it's a good time. Chances are, though, that you don't have much money haha. You don't mind holding on to those beat up skates or gloves when you have to worry about tuition and rent. Dress game is important but cost a pretty penny.

Well, I do believe it and I think there are a lot of sports psychologists that would agree with me. Anything that affects your confidence affects your game. You think you wouldn't be even a bit distracted if you were wearing, say, pink gear head-to-toe? I go back to golf--when I dress like a golfer I play like a golfer; when I dress like a bum, I play like a bum. And before anyone says anything about that, I'm not talking about having the most expensive stuff, just what is comfortable and what you like.
