Interesting shoulder pads + elbows of Rangers

Recommended Posts

Thought this was interesting. Surprised more players don't wear Bauer protective, especially guys like Staal who wears Bauer's skates, gloves, pants, helmet.

Almost every one of the Rangers wear the JOFA/RBK elbow pads and CCM U+ Shoulder pads. Thought this was cool — Richards with JOFA shoulders and Warrior caps.

Bauer has never had very good market penetration in the pro protective market.

Is there a big difference in the pro protective gear versus retail? For instance, the shoulder pads. In that photo, it's an overwhelming amount of CCM/RBK/Jofa. The elbow pads are almost all the same model.

Do I spy a pair of white Hustler shoulders on the top player of the bottom photo?

It seems like Fedotenko and the centre player are sporting a white bar of something in the sternum/spine of the U+Pros...perhaps an additional insert?

Air, that's Bickel with the Hustlers. And yeah Feds and Hagelin have a white bar across the chest/back, the others dont. Odd, wonder what that is.

lol I did, the white Warrior pads are on the player behind Lundqvist.

yeah i added the pic to the first post. That's Bickel. I think they're hustlers. Not a fan of the way those fit at all. In fact, I don't like the way ANY warrior gear fits.

Yeah that's Richards. LOL I just noticed that. It's like a wide pad that covers his whole back.

That pad is made by Eagle, and before that Tackla Canada, so same pad.

The Warrior caps on old pads shouldn't surprise any at this point, it's what's legal.

I notice that none of them seem to be wearing suspenders. I recently started wearing suspenders after taking way too many cross-checks to the back while hanging out in front of the net. The suspenders keep your pant's back-protection high up on your back as opposed just cinching the pants with lace or belt, where it will usually slide down and leave you exposed.

So the pros don't wear suspender's? Do they just cinch their belts tighter?

I believe those were used to hold the wireless microphone battery/antenna packs during the filming of 24/7. I didn't check, but I think I remember seeing them.

You can see a fair amount of equipment modifications...

The rule change requiring soft padding on the top of the shoulder caps is responsible for a lot of the changes.

I feel sorry for the guy that won Brian Boyle's jersey. It will make a great tablecloth.

In the top picture it looks like a little kid won it. Maybe he need a tent to sleep in.

I've noticed they all have extra padding added to the backroll section of their gloves.

Noticed that Callahan has some extra piece under the collar bone pad of his CCM shoulders. it is even more obvious, since he is standing next to Fedotenko whose shoulders are pretty stock.

Marc Staal cut off the red liner joining the shoulder cap and the bicep pad and looking at my own pair, it does seem to add more lateral mobility as opposed to vertical... *snip snip*

Those kind of look like the old pads Stinger used to make.

Yep, I noticed that too. That red fabric is stretchy so I can see how it frees the upper arm mobility.

Mug, is that Richards in front of Gabby? He looks like he has a satchel on his back lol

But his abs area is bare, i wouldnt want to take a shot there. It also looks like those jofas are two sizes smaller than what he should wear
