Dark tinted shields?

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty sure the darkest you can get is a mirrored visor. It will be a darker tint for the person using it compared to a normal tinted visor. I do believe that Bauer (I don't think Oakley makes retail mirrored visors) is phasing out mirrored visors though in favor of what they are calling smoke and amber tints.

They will only go so dark for hockey visors because if someone gets put on queer street they want their eyes to still be visible through the shield.

I personally wouldn't want one or even a regular tinted/mirrored shield. I only like the clear shields.

Didn't you asked the same thing a week ago? I doubt opinions have changed.

I think that a dark shield like that wouldn't be a good idea for playing hockey. Those dark pilot shields are designed that way because they are up so high with the sunlight right in their faces. Nothing like indoor lighting or even regular outdoor sunlight (standing on the the ground). You probably won't be able to see the puck that great and your reaction time would most likely decrease drastically. This is all IMO of course.

Call me stupid, but I don't understand "put on queer street".

A dark tinted visor seems really pointless. There's significantly less light and UV exposure in a hockey rink than there is in a fighter jet.

Yeah, but it looks cool...

Just put some mirrored aviator sunglasses on under your visor.

That's what I do. They call me "Iceman".

You don't even need a visor. I just wear my helmet, my aviators, and a boss mustache.

Steen, McDonald, and Perron have all had recent concussions. I think one of the side effects is sensitivity to light so that could be why they'll all wearing them.

Definitely helps with light-sensitivity; before I switched to tinted I would get really awful migraines the day after a game. With the tint in the shield I don't experience that issue anymore and my migraines are few and far between.

Almost every dude I've ever met who uses a mirrored visor at beer league hockey is a tremendoosh.

I have one and there's another guy who has one in a couple divisions higher. I'm far from a doosh and he exemplifies the doosh.

I thought about switching to a tinted visor because I have eye problems. I have since went with a cage though, seeing as how high sticks are a problem in lower level hockey. My eyes are at the point to where I'm taking some medicine used by patients with certain cancers to avoid having surgery on them. The light on the ice bothers me, but it's more manageable than the other visual effects of my condition. I tell my friends that I go by colors and shapes on the ice, not by individual characteristics.

It's just a shame that people are so quick to judge because they wear a certain piece of equipment as opposed to another. This isn't a sob story or anything, just saying that some people some things for a different reason than being a douche.
