2012-2013 Gear Sightings

Sorry, no.

If a manufacturer gives a pro a skate with the final graphics package, it's fair game - they know they are going to be photographed. But if someone takes a picture of me at a rink wearing the same skate and plasters it on the internet, that's a different story altogether.

Totally understand about the graphics issue..

I remember the commotion over these awhile back. Turned out to look nothing like the final product.

Is this a common thing? I guess Gaborik really wanted his padding dialed in.

I have a med 4500 of his with similar pading. I've also seen smalls with the front padding modified or replaced to be thinner. JR is right- he is between sizes.

Chara for HC "LEV". He's wearing a easton helmet with bauer decals on the sides.gIKUOuMuRrc.jpg

intereting indeed. Maybe Bauer is a sponsor of that team?

They are. Lev has a ''spolupracujeme'' (cooperation) with Bauer. This includes helmets. Gloves and sticks are fair game to anything though.

As for the extra padding in helmets, it just seems strange to me that in a time we are so focused on player safety with concussions and advanced helmet technology that adjusts every which way that we are still having players running around with rigged up padding in helmets. I guess that's the nature of the beast if you want to wear a 4500.

Harv, that has little to do with concussions etc. It's because without the extra padding there the helmet wouldn't fit his head. It's most important for a helmet to fit anyway.

I understand this. It's just that we have companies putting out helmets that tout to be the perfect fit and adjustable every which way but we still have high profile players cutting up pieces of foam to get their current stuff to fit correctly.

Correct Brandon. If anything it confirms that even at the highest levels there oftentimes aren't helmets that can accommodate the game's best. Zoom out to the minor and adult hockey league levels, and you can begin to understand the room for growth in hockey helmet technology, advancement, and customization.

Agreed. There will always be those who don't fit well into retail helmets. Rare, but it happens. I don't fit into anything save for a custom rigged and modified 5100.

Marketing is a very powerful tool.

What about a QMJHL player? 2 guys on the Blainville-Broisbriand team in the Q are wearing them. AAron Hoyles and Phillipe Sanche were wearing them at the game last night however I can't find pictures.

Yes, that would be an example of what can be posted in here.

Major junior games are photographed and televised, so when a manufacturer gives a player a product to use in those games, they are under the impression that said player will be photographed. That is what makes it a sighting and not a leak.
