Late Game at 11:10 PM tonight - tips?

Recommended Posts

I have a lot of games around this time and I would say the dinner around 6 or 7 pm (ideally something like broccoli, a sweet potato or serving of quinoa, and a protein source like chicken breast or tempeh) & 20 minute nap combo is good. About an hour or hour and a half before a game I like to have a bottle of Zico coconut water or glass of water with chia seeds mixed in. Sometimes coconut water with chia seeds. Really good fuel

+1 on coconut water and chia seeds.

I tend to have a lot of late games which is why my league is so cheap compared to others. Some of my games are even at midnight. I usually take a nap after work then have dinner around 8 (I try to eat about 4 hours before the game) usually pasta and a salad. I also recently bought a tub of biosteel performance sports drink to try. I take a cup of that before I leave for the arena as a pre-game supplement.

I'm a night person, guys at the station often refer to me as a bat. So getting up for a night game is pretty easy for me. The toughest part about a night game is winding down. Once you're all jacked up and the adrenaline is pumping through you, I find it very tough to put the genie back in the bottle, wind down and call it a night.

I play both at an early morning 6:30 class and then 11:00 the same night. I usually have a 90 minute nap, wake up maybe 2 hours before the game, followed by the Biosteel high performance drink to help wake up. By the time the game is done I'm still awake until around 2:00 a.m. because of the adrenaline of the game.

Any recommendations on what to eat after a late game?

Whatever the pub next to the rink will still serve at the time? ;)

I go for a good source of post-workout protein plus carbs, so either a shake plus Maltodextrin or like today a massive amount of grilled meat plus fries.

We usually grill something in the parking lot after every game. Thinly sliced london broil marinated in Lawry's marinades is my personal favorite. The baja chipotle and signature steakhouse versions are excellent.

If you're grilling London broil you have got to try Stubb's Beef Marinade. It's not the cheapest, but nothing else comes close. Try it once you'll be hard pressed to go back to anything else. Makes a cheap cut of meat a station favorite.

I haven't seen it locally, but I will keep an eye out. I usually slice it fairly thin before marinating it, allows the flavor to cover more of the meat.

Well, it worked out well. We played a great game and managed a 4-4 tie against the top team in our league. Basically, I hung out until about 90 minutes before the game, had a few cheesesticks and put my kids to bed. Went out into the sleet, drove to the rink and played. I wish I had a better story but it was a good time.
