Stick Comparison Needed:Bauer NXG Total One/APX?Nexus 1000

Recommended Posts

Interested in opinions of those who have used at least two of these sticks (NXG Total One, APX or Nexus 1000). Interested in flex comparisons and feel between these sticks. While I know feel is subjective, if you could compare and contrast between any two (or all three) that would be appreciated. My son has been using an Easton RS and NXG Total One predominately. He prefers the feel of the RS, but we have gone through a few of them (intermediate) and would like to stay with Bauer sticks.

Thanks.

At the same flex the Nexus will feel softer than the Total one and that will feel softer than the APX. I haven't used any of them enough to compare to the RS in terms of puck feel or flex.

Highest to lowest kick point is: Nexus, NXG, APX. Stiffest to softest feeling: NXG, APX, Nexus. I don't know why, but my TO feels stiffer than both of my APXs. All are the same flex, 87. The Nexus blade feels softest, but still feels very poppy and stiff while shooting and stick handling. I like the Nexus the most out of them, but the NXG will replace it when it breaks. I still need to get used to the NXG though, I haven't used it enough to really have a strong opinion on it.

The Nexus should be high on your list of considerations, as its probably my favorite stick ever.

Stupid stick question here. Is the Nexus designed to feel similar to wooden sticks? I thought I had read some marketing hype to that effect. I recently found an old Montreal wood stick in the garage with a European curve ( 5 lie) and rather enjoyed playing with it.

i used to use an x60, currently using a one80. i need help deciding what to get next between nexus and TO

im pretty used to my one80 but i really want to try a nexus. when i transitioned from an x60 to my one80 it took a little while to get used to but i am very familiar with the flex profile now and was wondering how different the nexus is. i remember a while ago someone made a really informative post about the differences between the nexus/TO. i take a pretty equal amount of slappers and snappers, but am a pass first player first and foremost if it matters. i need to make an educated purchase since im a penny pincher. also i've seen people talk about the nexus being softer, would that mean i'd have to buy a higher flex than i would for a TO?

trying to use this diagram to help me decide but i think its just adding to my confusion lol

I haven't used the TO NXG, but I have used the APX and I've had the Nexus 1000 for about a month now...the Nexus 1000 definitely feels softer than the APX to me. The kickpoint on the Nexus is kind of weird to me, I feel like I've had to change my shot technique with it. If I had to choose, I'd say I still prefer the Supreme line over the Vapor/Nexus line. (ONE90 over Vapor XXXX, ONE95 over X:60, TotalONE over APX) I just feel like the sticks had more pop to me, more life on them.

i have used all three sticks recently, and I must say the apx kicks the hardest on all shots. the TO is great on slaps but weak on anything else. The nexus I liked but found it lacked the same velocity on shots I had with the apx.

I've used the APX and TO NXG (as well as the 1gen TO) and have to say that I prefer the Supreme line as I like the way it plays softer than Vapor. I also like the way the TO loads. Can't say anything about the nexus 1000 as I don't own one.....yet.

I would choose my RS, over my Vapor APX, anyday of the week!!! IMO the RS is complete stick and fits me nice too!!!!!

its funny how people have such different opinions on sticks. with me the rs felt like a intermediate stick and didnt kick at all. way to soft for a 100 flex and that low kick is weak. probably just shooting styles but interesting how people differ

If I recall a previous topic correctly, you prefer really stiff sticks.

yah i use 102 flex sometimes 112. but i just thougtht the rs lacked any kick though even at the 100 flex. have you tried the rs2?

im curious to hear peoples thoughts on the nexus though. only one stick and i had a different curve with it but im curious how shots are as people use the top three and and see which they prefer.

is it just me or do not many pros use the nexus. i feel like their marketing campaign was trying to say that it was made by the pros for the pros

Quite a few pros use it but with different graphics. All those Supreme sticks you saw with the "G3" on the nameplate are Nexus sticks. Giroux, Ovechkin, Stamkos, just to name a few.

The Supreme's and Nexus will have a better puck feel in the blade due to the construction.. The Dual-Density blade core of the APX was designed to resist torsional deflection due to the loading process via the kick points. The bottom blade is of the APX, the white material is much stiffer and you can see how it runs from heel to toe providing that rigidity. Personally not a fan of the Dual-Density blade but I do really like the "dual kick-point" that the Vapor's offer with Intelli-sense. The NXG is solid all around for me, I can crank power out of it and still get a quick wrist/snapper off no problem. I never found a rhythm with the Nexus sticks even though I've used mostly mid-kicks.

I just got done hanging out with Evan Baker (product manager of sticks for Bauer) and we went through a comparison breakdown. We concluded with "get the flex profile that matches the mechanics of your shot." If you put a lot of lean in the stick, start with the Supreme then try the Nexus. If you're more of a quick release shooter (not a significant amount of puck drag during your shot process) then start with the APX and try the Nexus.

interesting to know. but i thought they would do the opposite and dress more TO's as Nexus' since TO is pretty wide spread now. i also had a feeling they didnt want to do that because its pretty hard to read the black on black text of the nexus.

and thanks Chase for that post that was really informative. i think ill stick with supremes for now, definitely not going back to vapor
