Bauer Vapor 7.0 Tongue

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I've had the Bauer Vapor 7.0 skates for a month or so. They have about 20 hours of ice-time and have broken in nicely. The only issue i'm having are with the tongues, they are digging into the side of my ankle. The pain isn't absolutly terrible, but I definitely can feel it.

Any suggestions / alternations that I can do to maybe make the tonges narrower in that area?

Thanks!

There are a couple of posts here about ppl shaving / cutting felt from their tongues to get rid of pressure points - you might try the search feature. iirc most did it using a razor to shave off bit-by-bit till they fit, shouldn't be necessary to cut them in shape.

I feel your pain! The tongue is a complete FAIL on the 7.0s. I know it's only my opinion, but EVERY pair of skates i've had ...the tongue was fine. I've had to "angle" my tongue to the outside to stop the digging on my 7.0s.

It WILL get better with use...but won't completely go away. Try moleskin in the affected area, even double up socks (only the uppers) for comfort. As far as cutting or shaving goes, that, to me, would decrease protection integrity, but if it stops the pain...why not? I've used mine for a few months now it DOES get better...or maybe we just get used to the discomfort...

I seriously can't walk in my skates from the locker room to the ice sheet without EXTREME discomfort. I have tried using a del disc pad to try and mitigate some of the pain and pressure point. It has helped some, but I have been using my skates for over a year now and if anything the pain is worse, but that is because I skate 4-5 times a week so that area is permanently irritated at this point. I would use the gel disc before the discomfort sets in or else try what other people on here suggested and possibly shave it little by little. Good luck. Other than the tongue these skates are awesome.

Why not replace the tongues?

I sold my Vapor 7.0's because of this exact issue. I loved the skates but after a while the ankle pain was just too much and I didn't want to deal with the hassle of switching tongues.

I didn't notice the pain as much when I skated more when I was walking in them and then after skating it was pretty bad.

I was thinking of replacing the tongues, but don't like the A&R option. Anyone know if you can order different tongues directly from Bauer through a LHS? I like the felt tongues they have on the Supreme One.9.

This is an ugly fix, but I cut out the hard foam insert and replaced it with some felt. I glued it in really well and sewed up what I could. The laces keep the rest of it in place. I did this about 3 months ago and these skates are worn 6 days a week.

I've done the same fix. I replaced the oval material, too. I think those inserts only last about 4 months or so.

Thought I was the only one. The tongue digs into the side of my ankle right above and to the front of the bone on both sides of my left ankle and the inside of my right. I think I'll try shaving/cutting the tongue first and see if that makes a difference.

Would another bake help? They're really comfortable other than the tongue issue.
