DimeBag Darrell Killed

Recommended Posts

Wow, and you thought this kind of stuff only happened in rap music. Very sad to hear. Dimebag Darrell was a hell of a guitarist. I haven't heard his newer projects but Pantera was also a favorite band of mine back in the days of "Cowboys from Hell" and "Vulgar Display of Power" (back when he was known as "Diamond" instead of "Dimebag").

Everyone in town (columbus) here is just in shock. A buddy of mine I work with is a nephew of the guy that owns the club. Apparently the cop who shot the idiot with the gun was off duty and just stopping in to see his uncle (the owner). Good thing that he did. I guess the cop didn't waste any time and put the guy down really quick. They said if the off duty guy didn't stop him it would have been much worse, because at that point the guy was firing into the crowd becasue a bodyguard tried to wrestle the gun from him...

I've been to that place tons of times in my college days.. what a shame.

Yeah Geki, that's what I heard too, that as security was wrestling with him he kept firing. I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of those crazy fans Phil Anselmo has, especially since in an interview last week he put a lot of the blame from Pantera breaking up on Vinnie and Dime.

The news confrence they just had said the cop was just down the street for a different call (he was on duty, if that matters). Came in the club through a back door. And shot the gunman who had a hostage, all within a few minutes. Said that Dimbag got shot 3 or 4 times in the back of the Head.

Wow, all I had heard was he got shot 3-4 times from close range, not to the head. Geki I'm sure can confirm this or not, but that venue supposedly has no barriers, and during a mid-size show you can easily come and go on the side of the stage the gunman came from.

Absolutely, this is a very intimate place (capacity is like 300 maybe) and the stage is very easy to get to. There are no barriers or anything, you're right at the edge of the stage. The owner said the place was pretty close to capacity last night and that the guy jumped on the stage within the first couple seconds of the first song, approached behind Darrell and shot him in the head at least twice and fired on him on the ground as well then shot someone else in the band (I didn't ask who the other guy in the band was). People were just stunned and thought it was part of the show until the guy started screaming and waving his gun around the stage...

The owner normally has a .357 under the desk at the bar but he was too far away to get close enough to do anything (too many people), I guess the officer that got there put a one-shot-one-kill on the guy and ended it really quickly. Rick (the owner) said the officer was off duty though, maybe he didn't know. But he said the guy is a friend of his and was just stopping by when he heard the commotion.

Here's the stage

I just wish they would stop saying "The gunman, who was waring a Blue Jacket Jersey"

From Cnn.com "Witnesses described the shooter as a heavyset man, wearing a Columbus Blue Jackets hockey jersey." That might discribe me

Speaking of publicity, I'm going to see about getting a girl or few to write something related to our cause on their...ample canvases. Evidence to be shown in a late night session.

That is the worst. I was just at that show (at Irving Plaza) in New York. Shadows Fall, The Haunted and Damageplan. I literally just saw Dimebag on the 29th of November. The worst part is that the drummer Vinnie Paul is his brother and had to watch this happen from ten feet away. That is absolutely horrible.

Agreed. I still listen to them now and Dimebag was by far my favorite guitarist because of some of the sick things he did. He was a metal pioneer and he'll be sorely missed.

Wow chaps, I have to say I'm gutted about this news. Dimebag was the man. To go onstage I suppose is a rock star's dream, but not this early and not this way! Phil A must be gutted - considering yeah that he said all that stuff. Blimey.

And the killer could have chosen something else to wear...not exactly helpful to the cause....

RIP

That's just horrible.  I can't believe that took place right on stage.

I can't even imagine what it must have been like for the people in the club at the time. I'd probably be scarred for life.
