which stick would you recommend: TO, 20K, CL, DT1, RS

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm looking for new twigs and I was wondering which ones you liked or did not like. I know that they have different flex profiles but that is also something I would like to try out.

Important for me would be puck feel/control as well as durability.

Candidates:

Bauer Supreme Totalone (or Totalone NXG)

Reebok 20K (or 11K)

CCM U+ CL

Warrior DT1

Easton RS (or RSII)

Any input appreciated.

Not the RS horrible control, never had a problem catching passes or stickhandling before I got the RS. But something that wasn't on your list that I would recommend trying out is the dynasty (or dynasty ax1). first game with the dynasty I scored six goals. And I lead my team in scoring when I had the dynasty, but then it broke and I got the RS, and I started doing horrible, I don't know why, and I couldn't catch passes so everyone stopped passing to me as much.

Interesting, I on the other hand would recommend the rs and rs2. I have never had a problem with control using the rs. Infact, it has the best control as well as the best shot I have ever used in a stick. If puck feel is a huge deal for you, and bauer has your curve then the total one/nxg are great choices as well and have had better durability then the rs/rs2.

I have the 20k, DT1, and a RSII's, they all play differently. I like them all, but the one I love is the Warrior. Just something else, that dagger taper is the best low-kick point stick I've played with, and I've had them all (except the apx). For durability however, my 20k is a tank. Also be careful when choosing your flex, 75 flex in the 20k is similar to an 85 in the warriors.

i got the dt1 after my widows broke on warranty. i loved the widow, a real natural feel to it. it didnt feel like a stick but a part of me. the dt1s have a little less feel to them but their durability has been upped incredibly. i never even thought of warrior before but now im hooked. I cant wait for the the DT1LT sticks to come out.

I hated the TO NXG for puck feel, but I had a 95 flex and I usually use a lower flex so that might have been the case. Also, I hated the stupid spiral texturing down the shaft of the TO NXG.

I didn't hate the puck feel for the RS, and it shot great...but the puck feel of the Nexus and APX were on another level.

I found the puckfeel of the apx to be adequate but the warriors were better. Try a clearance or a buddies widow or dt1 stick. I play a lot of roller now at days so feel with a lighter inline puck is hard to get.

+1 for the Warrior DT1, best stick I've ever used. I like the RS2 alot also, but DT1 seems to be more durable. Have you considered the RBZ?

I've used a Vapor X:60, T1, T1 NXG, Nexus 1000 and Easton Stealth S19.

So while I'm partial to Bauer I will say none of those felt quite the same as the S19 which had a nice dampened feel in the blade and the shaft and was a good stick for shooting but I liked a couple of the Bauers for puck control. Amongst the Bauers the best combo of feel and durability in my opinion is the Nexus 1000. If you're someone that tends to shoot wristers and snap shots then it's a great stick. I've only tried the Vapor APX once or twice at stick and puck, but Vapors have always felt too pingy to me. T1 and T1 NXGs both feel very stiff no matter the flex but they're very durable.

I currently use a pro stock T1 NXG, and while I really like it, I'd be lying if I said it was my ideal stick. If I could get the same textured shaft, softer flex and blade pattern on my Nexus I'd be quite content for the next several seasons.

I didn't want to post anything cause I was starting to sound like a Bauer fan boy but what mcne0101 said is right on the money. Best blades on the APX and Nexus in the last year IMHO. I am going to another trade show this friday so that may change but last year the Bauers ruled. Also the Nexus is the lightest stick out there at the moment.

My Nexus has lasted the year. Tip of the blade is beat up but the stick does not want to die.

I was actually exclusively an Easton user since the Synergy was first launched 12 or so years ago. I only tried a Bauer after I had a bad string of brakes on my Easton, and they didn't have my curve in stock. I'd love to experiment more with other sticks like the CCM rbz and some of the Warrior's but it just gets too expensive.

I keep hearing about durability issues with the Eastons, great durability with Reebok (11k and 20k), and nice performance/ durability with the Bauer Supreme TotalOne.

thanks again for all the valuable info.

  • I will soon be able to get my hands on a TO and a 20K stick and I'm looking forward to try them out
  • I'm still very intersted in the DT1 but no one around here has one or rather the only one I could get has a 95 Flex which is to stiff for my liking.
  • Easton is not an option anymore because I read to much about the durability issues.
  • There don't seem to be too many CL users unfortunately.

By the way I'm coming from using old (made in Canada) Easton wood sticks.

For some reason I think it will take you a little while to get used to these, from your old wood sticks, and I have a question for you, why don't you order online, they have some pretty good deals going on right now?

And why don't you choose a bit cheaper of a stick that's a bit heavier, if your coming from wood sticks, you should get something lighter, but not to extremely light like the total ones, so it doesn't take as long for you to adjust. And what about Sherwood, I heard that their T90 sticks are pretty good, especially for the price 124$ or something like that, and they are pretty light to.

I still push the dt1, but if you're coming from Easton wood sticks maybe look at their dynasty line.

A mid kick would feel more familiar and it has a more boxy shaft that you may like coming from Easton. I would love to try their dynasty ax line for a stick and puck but I love their covert low kick line to much for actual playing.

I also have to repeat the above. Online stores are having 20% off sales now I would go that route or try out a line by going to their $100 sticks. That segment of the stick market has gotten very competitive and I know the dt4 has gotten a lot of rave reviews.

I do live in Germany which makes buying in North American Online stores too expensive unfortunately. However I could get a pro stock 20k as well as the TO from Sweden at a reasonable price. Buying any ice hockey equipment in German stores is ridiculously expensive.

Aiming at high-end sticks is owed to the fact that a lot of people write about how awful the puck feel is with "lower end" sticks.

Part of the reason why I would want to try the mentioned sticks are the different flex profiles (e.g. low kick point for wrist shots). At first I found it strange to see people having harder and more accurate shots with their OPS while looking rather lost when they tried my wood sticks. Thats why I think I might benefit from trying them out.

Interesting though that you mention the weight of the sticks as well as shaft geometry. Haven't really thought about that before.
