Bauer curves

Depends on your area but I find the P92 is the overall #1 in sales.

And its equivalent in every manufacturer I would guess as well, although Reebok/CCM's plethora of mid-curves might be up there.

Any idea why the p92 and its equivalents are so popular? Maybe I haven't used it enough but I don't see the appeal. It's like this generation's Coffey curve.

Easier to raise the puck with, good confidence builder for the younger kids (independent of learning proper technique of course).

It's also a cyclic effect. People start to buy more = stores order more = manufacturers make more and pretty soon, that's mostly what you see on a lot of sticks that stores (especially smaller ones) order. They get what sells and a person getting a new stick is going to get that curve if there isn't much choice.

It's gotta be something other than lifting the puck b/c if that were the case, then the Lidstrom/p02 should be selling like crazy. I wonder if it's b/c banana curves just look appealing to those who don't know what they like yet.

A pattern like the Lidstrom takes more ability to control, that means practice and too many players look for the easy solution instead of learning how to shoot. That is why the P92 flies off the shelves. It takes very littly ability to put the puck bar down with that pattern and that is what all the kids want to do.

Lidstrom is also very flat on the bottom making it much more critical to get the lie correct.

This makes me wonder if the Lidstrom would sell better if it came in different lies like the p92 lie 5/6

I doubt it, most people won't take the time to learn how to shoot with a heel wedge. Toe curves are much more "en vogue" now anyway, even if a large percentage of people that use them can't shoot with them.

I thought the Lidstrom had a decent rocker? I was comparing it to a PM9 at a store this week and I couldn't get the Lidstrom to lie completely flat on the floor. It always favoured toe or heel.

I'm using the Modano/PM9/Duchene/Burrows/etc. right now because it's the only retail lie 5 heel curve (well ok, mid-heel, but Drury is the only 'true' heel retail). I'd definitely buy a lie 5 Lidstrom. I play D and I'm not the tallest guy, so I like to have a taller stick for poke checks and more reach.

Also, to answer the original question, I'd think the P91A is pretty popular (definitely not #1 though). Well at least on this forum it is.

That is usually one of the worst selling curves at retail.

The Lidstrom will have trouble lying flat because of the sizable curve and twist. If you deloft it then you will find a point where the blade is mostly on the ground.

Wow, that's actually pretty surprising. It's obviously a tough curve to get used to (I haven't been able to yet), but it seems really popular among MSH users.

While that is true, MSH'ers are kind of elitist, and I don't mean that in a disrespectful way (myself included). Everyone here is either very particular about their equipment, or interested in learning more than those typically uninterested in what they use. Also, there's a lot of influence from high level players( myself excluded) whether they be members on the board or players people want to emulate. This is possible because a lot of members have access to or are avid collectors of pro-stock equipment.

We're not representative of the general market. Not close.

I wish I had thought of this instead of using about 9000 words to say the same thing.

It never hurts to explain the "why/why not" part as well.
