Shin Guard Help

Recommended Posts

So after about 14 yrs my trusty jofa 8090's got a crack yesterday and I am in desperate mode to find a new pair of shin pads that fit similar. Please don't suggest looking on ebay I'm not paying close to 200 for a pair. I like to find a pair that fit wide like the jofa's did. The reebok 20k and Easton mako's seemed to interest me anyone have any suggestions?

When I saw the Mako protective, my first thought was how similar it appeared to the old JOFA stuff with some updates and/or improvements.

I have old Easton synergy 300 shins. I'm a grown man with very wide and thick legs and their size 13" Jr I've been using for years (i have short legs :P) the left knee has been cracked since the first weeks use but I havnt found a replacement for them as newer shins, though very nice and I'm now looking at Sr sizes, hardly have straps that fit across the back of my leg and I don't like taping if I don't need to.

I looked on eBay for the same model and found one of a different year but it has the same features and fit so this leads me.to believe Easton does have some wider fit.

Also what's with all these strap systems now? They are so conveluded, have shorts straps and never seem to work. My eastons have two thick elestic straps that Velcro across and they never move.

Find some older CCM. Upros or the ovechkin ones. They all closeout and are shaped just like your jofas.

I'm a U+ Pro user and now that you mention it, they're probably the closest to the curvy Jofa shape that I've seen.

Did you get some pads?

I am in the market for some pads.. ive got some very old bauer pads (black and green colour scheme- i cant rmeember the model number for the life of me!).

I am a 13", and tried on the mako m3s.. i have to say i did not like..they didnt feel like they fit deep enough if that makes sense. I much preffered the CCM U+12, which seem to fit closer on the leg and equally as deep as the equivelent Rbk pads.

Figured I would update this thread, I went ahead and purchased the easton makos and I must say at 1st they were a little different coming from the jofa's but after playing a couple drop in sessions I am very impressed. They were very protective did not feel a thing blocking a few shots and of course the hacks. The movement and mobility is where the pad really shines, the knee flex is amazing. I would def recommend those looking for a set of shins to check them out.
