Too grippy stick

Recommended Posts

I got a replacement for my broken stick (reebok ai5), and it's so damned grippy. How do I get rid of this grip? Aside from the obvious sandpaper it off answer, what might my other options be?

Get a spray can of clear paint & spray it on , you will paint right over the grip.A easy solution , done it to mine works great.

Came to post this. Clear coat has worked well for me . Do multiple light coats.

Buddy who used to work at a LHS says he uses fine grain sandpaper in areas you'll hold the stick. Doesn't rub off graphics.

Drives me nutz you can't get non-grip sticks anymore. Damn kids!

Anyways, I use clear tape on areas I hold.

I used a fine sandpaper block where I grip the stick and that worked well to just remove some of the grip. I use a Nexus with grip, but purchased a Mako II and the grip was too much.

sweet i need to try this on my Mako II (HDHockey)... did the graphics come off?

Im currently using SMCGREG's way.. leg tape on my stick. Hate gripped sticks..but so hard to find the stick you want, with the blade pattern you like, in the flex you use, without grip here in the UK!

Well, in my brand (Warrior), they are not even manufactured for the intermediate category any more, so, not available in the US either. Ridiculous in my opinion, but I guess the market dictates things. I just despise grip sticks, so, can't understand why they're so popular. Then again, I don't understand why Facebook and Twitter are that popular, so, I guess it's a generational thing. Are grip sticks a reflection of societal narcisicsm, too?

It comes down more to economics.

Right now, if a dealer only ordered one of each stick model, in each flex, of three curves, in each line of Bauer sticks, they'd order 162 sticks (48 Vapor, 42 Nexus, 66 Supreme). And that is only one side, now double that for left and right and you get 324 sticks. And that is SR ONLY.

I didnt go into jr and int, but look at those numbers, just ONE of each stick and a dealer has to stock 324 sticks. Now if they had to do that with both grip and non-grip, they'd be stocking 648 sr sticks, from ONE brand, and only still have one of each on their shelf. It still doesnt include int or jr sticks.

It just gets out of control way too fast and with grip being more popular, they have to cut something down somewhere and therefore limit the non-grip models to make it slightly more palatable for their dealers.

So most companies will still offer grip and non-grip in their highest end models to give those with a real preference that ability to choose, but they just cannot do it across their entire lineup.

With all these new stick manufacturers coming out I wish one would just become an online whole seller with a large variety of grip/non and curves. I'd be happy to buy online straight from the manufacturer to get my chosen combo.

Right now Bauer has mybauer which is cool but its a 4-6 week lead-time and pretty darn expensive. It doesn't need to be ridiculous customization, just grip/non and like 10-15 curve options. They would stock a ton of sticks but they only have to worry about their own brand. Someone like Bauer who has the market presence established would have an easier time doing it than a new brand. I'm guessing there are a number of reasons why this isn't feasible that I'm just not thinking of though.

sss1987 - The graphics did not come off, but I did not remove all the grip coating, just enough to make it not as grippy. I thought I might have to sand more, but after the top coat was gone, it is not as sticky in that area (might just be because it is not as smooth of a layer).
