Bauer Hockey 2014/2015 Website Renovation

Recommended Posts

It's been some time since Bauer changed the layout and format of their web presence and I'm surprised it's taken this long.

I'm a fan of the new design, it's clean, simple and loaded with quality images and information.

It's prettier, I suppose, though logging into myBauer still takes half a century. Not sure if that's the case for everyone, but it's always been consistently slow for me. Also, where's our glove customizer, huh? To hell if I'm going to wear the same gloves as the common rabble. Just let me do up a pair in the colors I want and I'll pay extra. Serious.

I checked the team dealer listing in my area. They have shops listed that have been closed for years.

A number of years ago at BauerWorld meetings, I suggested a custom glove department option to go head-to-head with Warrior and Eagle. Players would pay for it. Look at what they spend on Warrior and Eagle custom gloves. Idea fell on deaf ears. Oh well......

Is there money in it though? To justify the cost of setting up that process?

I would think so. Charge premium prices for rush delivery, etc. Just another avenue to getting your product and brand on more players to dominate the marketplace. PSG has money, heck, they gave Messier $4mil for his rink project.

It depends which side of the business you are on and your location. I have regular re-orders for custom gloves from a lot of players.

Let's define "a lot", and what percentage is that of overall sales. Bauer might not see the value in a minimal bump in sales compared to the outlay of startup and maintenance costs of a new custom program.

Over 75 players is a lot for my marketplace. The Warrior changes were not good news for a lot of those players. Enough with this idea, it was good to see PSG update the website for Bauer.

And also, then you open the door to all the extra requests, which I can imagine on the one hand, if you say no to them, that will only go to diminishing the brand appeal in the eyes of those interested in custom gloves, then on the other hand, if you say yes, you continually bring in more nuance and cost, but with a minimum order of 1 pair, that may not be lucrative. When a pro player, on the other hand, does get such and such a mod, it's often to the tune of several more pairs, plus the brand bonus of being worn by more and more professionals and especially those that garner more adulation than average. Unless you're a small operation, which Warrior isn't as much so now as it used to be, or like Eagle is and likely will continue to be, it seems like it would be hard to make it viable. Again, without knowing actual numbers it's hard to say what's really what.

It's primarily an update to incorporate responsive behaviors. This enables the site scale and render correctly on different devices. Old site prolly didnt work on tablet and mobile. Look and feel is pretty understated. I like it.

I'm generally sick of the stack of mattresses popular in web design these days, but to each their own. Even Apple's site is like that now. It makes sense for the market leader to give the people what they want, I'm just not near the mean of the web using population I guess.
