JR Boucicaut 3804 Report post Posted February 18, 2015 No such thing as a LS3 holder. If you're talking about LS Edge, then no, they do not.
kingofnooyork 30 Report post Posted February 18, 2015 Yeah that's what i meant sorry. Any timetable as to when they may offer it?
tomh7 2 Report post Posted February 18, 2015 Never unless they what a visit from Bauer's legal team. If you what Step Steel for your LS Edge, the LS3 steel is what you need.T
jonesy9020 77 Report post Posted February 18, 2015 LS4 may also be available soon as it will come stock on the 1X skate. Another option at this point is to get LS3 with the Blackedge coating.
A2rhino 63 Report post Posted February 18, 2015 The folks at Step said they had no plans of making this in the near future. Made it sound as if they thought this was going to be a short lived holder but were waiting to see.
boo10 323 Report post Posted February 18, 2015 I find it curious that Bauer was able to get a patent for the Edge holder. I saw a very similar trigger system on a low end holder about 6 years ago. Skates were being sold in Canadian Tire under the Tackla brand.Edit: apparently they were Quickblade holders. My curiosity still applies. What makes the Edge unique enough to qualify for a patent? Did Bauer acquire Quickblade patent and modify?

Holder tech is one of the last things most consumers (read: not whacky MSH people like us) are going to think about when buying skates.
jimmy 194 Report post Posted February 18, 2015 The thing about patent is, in the US anyway, is that replacement parts/consumables are not fully covered/protected. This is exactly why the Moss-magnuson Act was enacted. To provide the aftermarket the opportunity to make replacement parts, which today cover a wide variety of industry and products, from car starters to electronic parts. I would think the same applies to a consumable like a skate blade.

Oh well, I guess its just one of those things I will never understand. :)
kingofnooyork 30 Report post Posted February 19, 2015 What's the deal with the Black Edge? Anybody recommend them? They seem to be low. I like the tall LS3 steel. Had the fusion on my MX3s originally and hated them.

Had the fusion on my MX3s originally and hated them.Highly recommended. Not a lot of skaters need the taller Step runners, their main advantage is longer sharpening life. With blackedge, they have a much longer sharpening life than STEPS, even though shorter. If you need taller blades to prevent slipouts, then STEP's Blacksteel is a great choice. x-track 8 Report post Posted February 19, 2015 second that .....I could go more than 6 weeks without feeling the need for sharpening with the blackedge........on regular steel , as I have access/my own sharpener I did it every other week....one more thing I recognized , as I skated with my fresh 90/75 blackedge steel ( s17 skate ) I felt xtremely good glide .....the eye opener was when I switched to mako M8 w oem steel 90/75 as well ...felt like somebody held my jersey from behind ...and a lot less glide / distance covered !!so I wait for blackedge for makos before using them again ! jonesy9020 77 Report post Posted February 19, 2015 The only Blackedge product that is being sold for LS Edge holders is actually LS3 steel coated in blackedge stuff. It'd be the height you like.

It is really a better option IMO.
