Helmet Dilemma

Recommended Posts

Okay, for Christmas, I got a BAuer 5000 helmet, and like i did with my last one, I took the stickers off of the back of the helmet, but now my friend who is a referee has just informed me that there are upposed to be the two round stickers on the helmet, I have had my other helmet without stickers since I got it, back in MArch, and refs haven't said a word about it, is he b/sin me or is he right?

At my course the question was brought up, and if you, the referee, know that it's a newer model helmet and once upon a time had the two stickers on it then theirs no point in saying anything. However if it's an older helmet and your suspiscious and don't find stickers, then that's when you can't wear the helmet. Your safe with your 5000, their shouldn't be a hassle.

Oh believe me Lnagenbrunner, I REFUSE to buy a new helmet all becuase of two damn stickers. But yeah #94, I thought so, I havent been using them since MArch, and even when my helmet was spraypainted and chipping like crazy, they didn;t say anything, so I am keeping it the way it is, legal or not lol

EDIT: Yeah that was another question I was going to ask, that since it is a new helmet, it had to of passed, if it was an older helmet, I think I woulda kept em on, but since it is newer, I took em off

Yeah I mean, if I have been able to for 9 months, it must not be a huge problem and I guess the fact that it is a new helmet helps it

The Referee in Charge of your local area probably has more important things to worry about, but as soon as someone sues over a defective helmet or missing warning label on any piece of gear you will see refs clamp down on it. This year USA Hockey is too busy trying to weed out those dangerous ref jerseys with the mesh underarms.

Ahhhh I see, so a sticker missing is the least of their worries?

for now. As I said, that could change or you could come across a guy who loves to enforce every rule in the book.

It will always be a "while I'll get away with it" type attitude until your called on it. You will not be allowed to play and will have to get a new helmet. Why not bite the bullet now and not risk missing an important game?

USA Hockey decided to mandate the "traditional" black and white only ref jersey. You aren't supposed to use the NHL style ones anymore.

Sounds like someone wants to feel important by mandating that decision.

I honestly don't mind them changing the ref jersey look. It looks absolutely retarded when a level one ref who is doing squirt games and adult c games has a NHL style ref jersey. Maybe its just personal preference on my part, but as long as you aren't doing high ranking games, stick to the traditional attire. I've heard the same thing that JR has. Trust me, there is nothing worse than reffing with an underqualified guy who has something wrong with his physical apperance. It sounds bad, but when you get out there and your partner looks unprofessional, it brings you down as well. Take for example one guy in town who has a long braided ponytail that goes half way down his back and wears one glove. Even if he was a great ref, nobody would respect him based on his appearance. Obviously this isn't as extreme, but I see where they're going with this.

Actually, it was for 3 reasons.

1. they already mandate white laces so this is just another way of making all the refs look alike.

2. they have no desire to have CCM or BNH creating demand for new style jerseys every couple years, this also goes back to the first point as imagine what would happen after another revision or two are released.

3. Official's wearhouse is a USA Hockey partner and the fact it would benefit them was mentioned in the initial statement from Bob Hayden, the RIC for USA Hockey.
