Shooting pad

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Haven't been here in awhile. Pretty much been out of hockey since I moved in my house. I have been itching to get out and shoot some pucks.ni was curious what you guys use to shoot off? Is puckboard still a good option? I don't know where I might find that around here. Just looking at sticks at my shop in town things have changed. I still have a couple one 95's.

Just trying to find something to shoot off

Thanks for any tips, I'm sure I will be back with more questions

I use a white panel board glued on top of a normal panel board. Cost me under $30. Go to the wood section at your local hardware store, and look for a panel that's the size you want with a slick surface on top (doesn't have to be white). I glued another piece underneath it to reinforce it, then put some car wax on top to help the pucks slide.

There are lots of good info those threads. One of the guys even suggests going on ebay and getting a 4 foot by 8 foot roll of HDPE on ebay.

If you have a Home Depot close by ask for a 2' X 4" melamine board for $13, also suggested in those threads. I used these to make Sauce game bases A24C3F54-033D-40B8-8957-9FB984F834C0.jpg

I bought a large sheet of acrylic. Not as slippery as ice though, but only cost a few bucks. If you used frozen pucks on it, it would probably be even better.

I just got a shooting board from IW. Was never happy with any of the home made solutions. They're only like $50 depending on the size you get.

www.shootingstarhockey.com, they sell right from their website. We've been selling their product in our store for about 8 yrs, people love them.

Depending on your climate (tends to do better in dryer cooler places) a whiteboard panel from Lowes or home depot is cheap and very effective, especially when sprayed and wiped with pledge.

In more humid climates the top layer can tend to bubble and then peel over time.

I'm thinking to cover fully my house top shooting floor.

I checked the melamine board on youtube videos, it looks so good. But I can't find any melamine tile for outside using. All products are made for interior. If the melamine board would be seated on the house top, I think it will come off soon...

To use HDPE boards is better?

Thanks for all the replies fellas I appreciate all the help

I use to use melamine so might go back to that. I never sealed it with anything and kept it outdoors for a couple years before it finally rotted and broke, for the use it got and for being left outside in the snow and rain it was definitely cost effective.

I think if I got a couple pieces again I'd want to seal it with something to keep some of the moisture out. but then again that might just be overkill for a 10 piece of particle board.

Hey, Mimzik. For your uses, yes, I think the HDPE board would hold up a lot better to the weather if your plan is to put it on the roof and just leave it out.
