Warrior HD1 VS Warrior QR1

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I was wondering what stick I should get. I'm a forward who likes to take quick snappers, wrist shots, and bomb clappers along with that. Of course I take snapshots the most I also bomb the clapper though. Which would be best for me? Also what curve? W71 or W28? Is W71 too big?

I have yet to try the HD1 but from what warrior advertises , its a mid flex point stick more suited for slapshots and such. I am currently using a QR1 W71,coming from an NXG and Nexus8000 P92 which are both mid flex point sticks vs the low kick flex point of the QR1. As a forward this stick as improved my game as it loads and unloads very quickly with little effort for wristers and snappers. Clappers are good too with it by just positioning your hand down lower on the shaft. The transition from the P92 to the W71 only took one stick time session to get used to as the open face tends to shoot pucks higher than you'd expect at first. Ill be buying more of these sticks for sure. The W71 is the closest curve ive been able to find to the old Easton P33 which was my perfect curve but has been discontinued. Hope this helped.

The dagger taper of the QR1 is definitely going to help with those quick snappers and wrist shots. It helps to quickly load a shot without putting max effort or weight into it. I used the firsts and second generation covert sticks and absolutely loved the taper and how every clapper I took felt like I got every bit of the puck.

So, every type of shot is most important to you? Sorry, that doesn't help at all. No stick does everything well, there is always some compromise. As for the curve, it depends on your shooting motion. Neither of those curves works particularly well for me.

Personally, I prefer the QR1 by a wide margin.

It depends on what you're looking to get out of your stick. HD1 = Maximum Shot Speed // QR1 = Quickest Shot Release.

With the amount of time it takes to load the QR1, I think the shot takes longer from start of motion to the release of the puck.

My 100 flex QR1 also feels like it has a lot more flex than my 85 flex HD1.

How is the feel on the blade? Are they similar?

So you have tried both and recommend the QR1?

I much prefer QR pro (never tried qr1) over the hd1. I think shot technique plays into it too. I shoot mostly quick wristshots, and I can get them off pretty fast with a low kick (mako 2, vapor 1x, we pro). However, I feel the difference big time when I use a mid kick (Bauer supreme, warrior dynasty). My slap shots also seem harder with the low kick sticks, even though the only time I take them is in warm up. The marketing says "for slap shots you are better with mid kick and for wrist shots go low kick) but I think the reality has to do with technique.

My technique is to just flick my wrists/ not much load and not much wrist roll on the follow through, which does not work well at all for mid kick. Is suspect that if I shot with "proper technique " then I may be able to use mid kick, but low kick suits me just fine. I think most pros use mid kick, FWIW, which is not a factor for me wth what I'm doing, just an observation.

I don't care what anyone says about mid-kick sticks being only good for slapshots and one timers but weak at the wrist and snap shot game. I personally use mid kick sticks and while I take a good amount of slapshots I also take a lot of wrist and snap shots too. I am currently using a Nexus 1000 but I have also used the Warrior HD1 and QR1.

-First and foremost... I can't stress this enough. The right FLEX and curve combination are WAY more important than where the flex point is, period. I have a heavy shot, I get WAY more power out of a stick that is the right flex and curve than picking a bad combination of curve and flex in a stick thats kick point is "designed for my time of shooting". Nothing has stopped me from blasting a quick shot with a mid kick and in fact very few pros are into low kick sticks for multiple reasons.

-The durability of the QR1 and HD1 is crap. Be it chips or full blown premature failure. They fail hard in this category.

-The HD1 plays stiffer than its rated. 85 flexes felt like 100's to me and I am using a 102 flex stick.

Lastly, I would save the $290.00 and get yourself a Reebok Ribcor if you want durable with lots of pop. There are still a bunch for sale online for $120 ish and that was one of my favorite sticks. You need to decide where you want to be at flex wise and curve wise is up to you. If you have never used a W28 or W71 you might want to reconsider unless youre willing to experiment and possibly hate it. Plain and simple, not all sticks flex like they are rated and not every player can use every curve well

Thank you. I loved my 60 Flex MX3, probably going to get one of those again, if not, QR1.

Yes, I have both sticks and I prefer the QR1 to the HD1. However, I can't say which would be better for you.

See, me with a 70 intermediate... I find the hd1 to have more slop in the shaft than the qr1.

I think that's interesting in comparison to what everyone else is saying...

what is the main difference from the HD sticks and AX? i really like the Warrior Covert line of sticks but have yet to try the Dynasty line.

The HD line is newer. One of the major differences is the HD line seems to have the traditional grip shaft, where the AX line had a "Velvet Touch" powder coated feel. Or at least that's what I've noticed in terms of local store stock.
