Is it worth Re Baking Older Skates?

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of Nexus 8000 that have to be pushing 2 years old. They are pretty worn in.  I'm thinking about switching to Superfeet Carbon insoles and am curious if I'll gain anything from having them re baked before I put in the new footbeds?

I have the same question - my MX3s hurt my arches with the Form Fit footbeds, so going to try the superfeet.

Aren't yours new?  Yes if you are going to switch out the footbeds I would re-bake them.  Your ankles will be slightly raised with superfeet compared to the form fit footbeds.

No, they were used, and really soft for a Curv skate by the time I got them. The Superfeet didn't work out, so I took them back and got a pair of size 8 Vapors that fit much better, and were actually stiffer despite being much less, if you were to buy either one new.

Someone once told me that baking won't improve anything if the skate is already broken in.  However, we weren't discussing from the perspective of trying to remold someone else's used skates.  I was simply wondering whether or not my non-baked skates would benefit from a molding after I had already been skating in them for years.

According to Bauer the bakeable skates can be baked twice. No doubt they are broken in, but that means they moulded to your feet with the old footbeds in place. As strose points out, Superfeet raise your feet, changing the fit of the skate. I know as I had some, and they caused lace bite. They also hurt my arches as I felt the curve was in the wrong place and they are not mouldable. I moved over to Speed Plates which I rate, but not everyone likes them.

i baked my last pair of Grafs(which were deadstock from 1999-2001) after skating in them every week for 2 years and it basically transformed the entire skate. i also ended up baking them twice. myself in my oven at home.

composite skates are baked as much for fit as they are for breaking in.  Ive had EQM's tell me that its not uncommon to bake a skate 2-3 times as you break it in to dial in the fit.
