How Do Grips Compare?

Recommended Posts

Ive really been looking forward to getting an innovative shaft and i decided on the novius. Ive only been able to find one in soft grip with the right flex and the right hand... i guess ill call it that on the novius.

but anyway i was wondering how the soft grip compares to the easton grip, bauer grip, and all the rest. im hoping that it is not as tacky as these becasue i do not like a stick with a lot of grip.

thanks for any help.

I love Inno's soft grip. The closest thing I could compare it to is the original Easton Synergy Grips (the gold ones.) It is very durable, not too tacky but just enough to warrant using a grip stick over a non-grip.

The original gold grip wasn't too bad. I also thought the TFG grip was nice and minimal as well.

The TFG was an almost "perfect" grip in my opinion. I haven't tried the newer Bauer "stick'um" on the Vapor lineup (at least not in a game situation, kind of hard to form an opinion in my barehands at my LHS). Any comparisons?

the soft grip i had on my 1100 had the texture and tackiness of wax. it was the same as rubbing candle wax all down your stick. i loved it, but it did peel on me quite a bit. i ended up breaking it and got a novius as the replacement, but it didn't come with the grip so i've had to constantly rub stick tape on it

I had a fused 1100 with soft grip and it was very nice. I prefer polarfibre but that is personal prefrence. I have never used a novius soft grip but if its like the 1100 fused u will ike it im sure.

i think ill go with soft grip after the reviews you guys gave it.

****on a side note if anyone could PM and tell me if i have this right: Innovative Mogilny curve is like an Easton Modano curve? i checked the Pattern DB but i really could get a clear clear answer. its showed me that their similar but not exactly the same is there a HUGE difference? thanks

I had one and I thought it was a lot closer to a sakic than a modano.

ok thanks. how would to kovalev or federov compare to a modano?

Fedorov is pretty much identical, maybe a bit longer. Kovy is a Drury.

I have both,Fedorov is a Modano. Mogilny is close to a Sakic. I also think the soft grip on the Inno's are great. The polarfibre on my 1100 is ahhhh "innovative" but is also kool. TPS rubberized grip is also great. The only Easton grip I like is the grip on the gold/green Synergys.

One of the best grips I've seen on an OPS is the Louisville TPS Rubber. It's got a great grip coating (even more grippy than the TPS Rubber shafts, which are kind of glossy).

The downside of the TPS OPS Rubber that I seem to recall was were some folks complained that it makes the palms of their gloves a black, tar-like mess.

Also, I can see how that thick rubberized coat would help chips and graphite-fraying from common whacks during a game.

a kid on my team has a rubber and his gloves are so thickly coated in the rubber that when he uses his finger to get sweat out of his eyes it makes him look like he has 2 black eyes.. almost like he smudged football/baseball eyeblack all over his face
