This thread reminds of the old Perfecta holders/blades Gretzkyused............anybody know what was so good/bad about them?

I even saw them at a local discount/dollar shop for some ridiculously low price, something 'round 3 dollars a pair.

The good:

They were solid and didn't break like the early Tuuks did.

Gretz wore them.

The bad:

Nobody other than Gretz wore them.

I didn't care for the steel on them. I had them at one time but ditched them for ICM's.

As I recall, they actually had a flex to them..... the guy who tried to talk me into a pair actually showed how it would bow slightly, saying it was good for cornering. I figured a big fat ass like me would break them, so steered clear of them.

I thought so.........they felt very flimsy. Makes sense since Gretz was kinda on the skinny side.

Perhaps a precursor to Easton's Parabolic concept, or simply an unexpected side effect of making holders out of one, thin piece of plastic.

EDIT: this is in reply to Ogie's post

I'm actually a fat ass, although I was more slender at the time. Perfectas were all I wore and I loved them. They were more stable because of their construction, but I didn't find them the least bit flexy. There was nothing I didn't like about them, and I rue the day they stopped producing them. From my very narrow perspective, Tuuk has been an acceptable replacement, but I never did like them as much. Just can't stand ICM's though.

My guess is they are spraypainted like Sylvain Lefevbre(he has green ones).

I am pretty sure they are the real deal, UMaine can get anything since Bauer/Nike is the official sponsor of the hockey teams. You can also see the Tuuk markings on them. If they would be painted you could also see chunks of paint off of them and some white spots here and there (the UNB Varsity Reds painted their's red once and even after a game you could see the red comming off and the white on the back).

Who cares how they look...If I could get a pair of those I would put them on. Dang those are sweet. I know #2 on Maine and the backup goalie of Maine. I played with the goalie (Lundin) last year. He's hella good.

Those are sweet! Wouldn't mind seeing them back as retail as well, and I would love to see transparent Tuuks again as well.

Those Perfecta holders, are those still available? I always liked the ones Gretzky used but I didn't know what they're called until now actually.

I was told Perfecta was bought up by CCM way back when....I think the only thing different about them was that you could change the runners on them yourself if you wanted to.....check on E-bay I've seen a few there. One of the LHS in my area has the blue tuuks, their old stock .... not sure what they have for sizes.

At one time I had "modified" transparent Tuuk's. Back when I use to skate barefoot, I would dump baby powder into my skates. Needless to say, the powder migrated into the holders and gave them a nice, frosted look.
