Requiem For A Dream

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if any of you guys have seen this movie and what your thoughts were on it.

We watched it today in class and it literally scared the **** out of me. I know I will NEVER do drugs just because of this movie. I also decided I'm never going to watch it again, because it's enough to see this movie once.

I don't remember how I came across the movie, but the way scenes are edited together made me physically sick. I was amazed by the director's ability to do that. The director's other work isn't as effective though. The original score for Requiem (Used in Lord of the Rings) was instrumental in nausiating me. If I needed a final reason to stay away from drugs, this movie is it.

One of the better anti-drug films ever made and it gives some of the better material to goof on with friends. Well at least the "party" at the end.

I still wish this was the director doing the Batman movies.

LOL...weird. I watched it for the first time last night.

I thought it was very well done. Ellen Burstyn (Sara, in the film) was excellent. That scene where she talks to Harry about growing old, and how she has nothing was friggin' amazing.

Jared Leto, Marlon Wayans and Jennifer Connelly were also very good and Darren Aronofsky's visual style is impressive to say the least. I haven't seen his other film ("Pi") but am going to check it out for sure. I think he was tending to "show off" much in the way Paul Thomas Anderson and Tarantino tend to do by using certain elements, i.e. extremely quick cuts, time elapsed stuff, but it's all good.

But yeah as far as anti-drug movies go, this was about as good as any you'll ever see. It just shows how quickly your life can deteriorate if you get hooked on drugs (especially Heroin).

As for the score, actually it was not used in any of the LOTR films. Howard Shore was the composer for all three of the LOTR films, and Clint Mansell composed the score for Requiem. The score from Requiem was mixed with the music from LOTR:FOTR and was used in the trailer for LOTR:TTT because Shore's score for LOTR:TTT wasn't ready for the trailer.

Here's a blurb on it if you're interested -

I love it and I own it. The music is phenominal and the whole movie is just so profound.

If you like Requiem go rent Pi. It's by the same director. The premise is a mathematician who is trying to find a patern in the stock market using pi. Very trippy and amazing just like Requiem.

I would have to say they are two of my most favorite movies of all time.

Powerful movie and all the actors turned in a nice performance.

But it's way way too depressing to watch more than once.

Heh, I've seen it atleast 10 times .

I just went to rent it, and all they had was the edited version. I picked it up, but is it that much different/worse than the regular version?

No, it's really no different then the original. Some of the sex senses are dumbed down a bit, but other than that it's the same movie.

Ya I heard it's basically the same thing. Amazing movie, the part when he still shot up in the rotted arm almost made me vomit.

As for seeing it in class, my teacher overheard some kids in her grade 12 class talk about snorting coke, so she decided to show all her classes the movie to let everyone know how bad it can get so quickly. Apparently the kids who she over heard were crying after watching it. Needless to say she got into some trouble for it, but she says it was worth it. Sure as hell scared the bejesus outa me.

that's a good teacher....someone who'd put their job on the line to set kids right...

No doubt. I wish I had more teachers like that when I was in High School. Teachers that actually gave a damn!

I finally got around to watching it. Good movie. Did everyone else keep thinking of Tappy as Shooter McGavin? And why does he make out with old ladies in every movie? First it was Grandma Gilmore, now its Sara.
