Mission Carbster

Recommended Posts

A while back (in a land called Hannalee) I remember someone posting that there were some killer deals on the Mission Carbster ($39 USD IIRC). I have to say that I am curious about them and the low price makes them very attractive.

Can anyone tell me which site has them for $39? Any help in this arena would be greatly appreciated.

Also, since the carbster only comes in white and black how would you go about painting one to match your uniform (say if your team uses another colour helmet)? Would painting it kill the certification or could it be saved by being painted by an equipment repair shop or something like that?

Thanks in advance.

The site is hockeygiant. The only have size large and extralarge.

I have used the carbster since it came out and IMO, its by far the more comforable helmet and gives some excellent protection.

Dang, I think I need a M/L. The Large still seemed a bit too big. Any idea why they are so cheap right now?

They no longer make them. Get a tape measure out and measure your head and use the sizing chart to verify your size.

Was production stopped because of low demand or are they going to be unveiling a shnazzy new lid?

They were very expensive and most people weren't willing to pay that much for a helmet. I have never seen that many around so I'm guessing it wasn't worth keeping up production with so few sales.

Just got a Carbster Helmet after my Bauer 4000 cracked at the spot where the adjustment screw tightens. I've heard that others have had this problem with this helmet.

Wow is the Carbster comfortable and High Quality. I mean, I can't believe it only cost 39.99. Can't wait for Men's league tommorow night.

They are $39 because they are on closeout. If I remember correctly they were $99 when they were brand new.

I think they were 149 or something crazy, then the fibrester was 99

You're probably right. I remember them being significantly more expensive than any other helmet at the time.

Question... I wear a Bauer 4000XL, expanded probably at least 3/4 of the way (my hat size is around 8)

Will the Carbster XL fit me?

I'm not sure about the XL.

I got the Large (size 7.5) My hat size is 7 1/8. The helmet is just a shade loose, but not much. if I wear a skull cap or a bandana it fits just right.

Yeah I remember them selling in the $140 - $160 range initially.

And man I love mine.. I question seriously if there will ever be another helmet to ever be so comfortable. In fact, sometimes I don't wear mine because I'm afraid I'll "wear it out" and then I'll be left 'carbsterless'...

I personally wear a 7 5/8s hat and a Large 4000 helmet at about half open and the XL carbster didnt fit my head at all. Perhaps my head is shaped really weird(especially since your hat size and 4000 helmet appaear much larger than mine) but it didnt even come close to fitting on my head.

OK, I'll probably save my $40 for something else then.

Too bad... I have yet to find a helmet besides the 4000s that will fit me. Not that they are bad, but they are pretty vanilla.

Not a chance. I'm a 7 5/8 and bought one on spec. Unless I shave my noggin and then put it on a diet, I won't be able to wear it. It will go on but it's so tight that it causes me to have even more ridiculous thoughts than I normally have.

I got one at Hockey Giant last summer after my Itech literally fell apart and I love it. Alot of people have commented on it saying that it looks sharp, etc. It fits me a bit tight but nothing a good haircut wouldn't fix lol. Excellent helmet for the money.

Only neg thing I would say is it was a bitch adapting the visor from my Itech to the Carbster (Mission claims any visor will fit) but I got it on there and it's hanging tight.

Yeah,

How DO you get an Itech half visor to fit on there????

There's no place to attach the straps to.

Any ideas?

I ditched the straps. The visor fits snug so there's no problem with it flopping around and I can lift it up on the bench to wipe of sweat, etc.

Does it fit without the liner?

My immediate thought was what liner? Upon closer inspection - to determine that there was, in fact, a liner - and removal, it does fit well enough that I should be able to use it.

On one hand, is my face ever red. On the other, the cost of membership here has already been paid back by this advice.

how does the carbster work exactly? how does the helmet fit your head if you can't adjust it? are you just supposed to put the helmet on and have it morph to your head?
