CCM Tacks

Recommended Posts

Hi folks.

CCM is finally getting around to promoting Tacks skates again. They're redesigned for this year and to launch them CCM is offering a full 30 day refund if you're not happy with the Pro Tacks model.

As quoted from the CCM website:

"For 100 years, CCM Tacks skates have delivered performance and innovation.

We promise you'll love your new 2005 Pro Tacks or we'll give you your money back."

URL: http://en.ccmsports.com/goodies/tacks30/index.php?s=19

As a life long Tacks guy I'm happy to see the skates in the spotlight again as it's been a while. Now the big question, should I jump right in and upgrade, or are they so different that it's better to wait a year to ensure they get the bugs out.

Hmmmmm.

JJ

this made me laugh

as if AHLers have this vast choice of equipment to wear.

As far as I can remember, Bourque was using a wood stick, not a 130, for the fastest shot. I believe his "normal" sticks were lost or something of that nature as he said in the post event interview...

Na he was definetely using a 130. I remember because from far away I was like, why is he using a Stealth if they have to use ... I also remember because they said his stuff got lost on the way there and they had to give him some other sticks. So he went up from the 110 to the 30 and won the comp. That is some either lucky as hell marketing, or one schemed like crazy marketing tactic.

Goalie pads and skates aren't part of the deal if I remember correctly.

Yeah, it's not as strict on the goalies as the CHL deal is. But the way that article is worded you'd think the sticks were 100% responsible for the accuracy and hardest shot.

Just like any other manufacturer would do. Sergei with the hardest shot, JR with the accuracy.

Sorta unrelated...I love my 795s...would it be worth it to pick up a pair of pro tacks on closeout?

Funny...I was at two rows from the ice and I saw him use a wood stick....hmmmm

he's using a 130 in the game, I'm guessing he used one in the skills competition.

My eyes and ears were deceiving me then because he specifically mentioned using a Woody after he was interviewed for the event...What a liar!

If they fit you properly, yes.

Yes. They must use their sticks, gloves and protective.

I was palying at a rink where a AHL team was having their practice. The stick bag (or should I say tent) was in the hallway open. It had every make/model stick from Eastons to Sherwood wooodies.

I watched the interview after and I remember specifically, Bourque said his equipment was lost during his travels to the All-star game, so a CCM rep there gave him a V130 to try out, and he ended up winning the hardest shot with it.

Two teams voted against it - Lowell and Albany. They can use whatever they want. So, if you saw one of those teams, that's why. Other than that, it was practice...

Each team also has 2 exceptions from the deal. In Hamilton, Ron Hainsey uses Mission, and Steve Ott is using an Easton Shaft with a Bauer blade.

Bourque was using a 130, he used a 110 normally....... I'm goin to Norfolk next week to visit a buddy on the Admirals, so I know the story. After being delayed many times his flight was finally cancelled, so he took a flight to Boston and drove the rest of the way. Meanwhile his gear was lost, so he borrowed Staal's skates and the CCM rep gave him a twig. He's now using a 130.

They all use THC sticks, gloves on that team, and not a single one uses otherwise. Its a point of frustration for my friend who is an Easton client. He can only wear Synergy skates.

But this means I get his Stealths and SL when I go there.

I can't imagine they would use different sticks in practice. CCM sticks don't feel like other brands so using those other brands in practice is just about the worst thing you could do.

Maybe for cost reasons, I know a few OHL teams went to Koho combo's in practice for cost reasons, but it doesn't sound like that from what Jimmy was saying.
