Took my son camping for the first time this weekend and he had a blast. He jumped right in to gathering firewood, digging the latrine and "helping" me start the fire. I'm so blessed to have a 6 year old that loves the same things I do (at least for now anyway). We went with one of my buddies and his son. They are the same age and get along great. I've known Dave since kindergarten, and now our kids are friends. Makes me feel old, but not necessarily in a bad way.

My dad started taking me and my brothers camping around 5/6 years old too, and it turned out to be one of our most lasting traditions. I still go camping with my dad every year. You may yet turn out to have a nature-loving kid who looks forward to each trip to the woods. ;)

Despite pretty much being a through-and-through city boy, I love camping. Have been on some great large-group family trips over the course of my childhood and young adult life, and then just never had the chance or the inclination for a while. Then last summer before my first was born, the wife and I took a trip just the two of us and had a great time. Every summer since, we keep saying we just can't wait till the kids are old enough to go and really enjoy it. Of course, having just popped out number 2, we've got some time to kill before then.

That is a step in the right direction. I agree with you. That falls on the assignor(s) though. But as you know, politics always bares its ugly head in these situations. All I know is that people who aren't educated just blame the officials. How about teaching the players/coaches what they did wrong? Crazy ain't it? It's rare to see coaches and/or players focus on that. It ruins the learning experience that the youth level SHOULD have.

Stretch. A lot. And then stretch some more. I have the same issue with the 5 hole at first, but you loosen up over time. You need to be cognizant of it when you're on the ice, or it will be exposed.

Have you been checking out the goalie store bulletin board? They have the depth there to help out with these kinds of things. Pads need to be played with a lot to get rotation around your leg. I have goalie gear that I use for shinny / pick-up when people are short goalies and it took me a while to get it right and I can't replicate it twice in a row. It has a lot to do with the laces and strap set-up... and your mechanics. Try the "No Rebounds" video for a start. My buddy lent it to me and it is worth the look.

Made some trades, sales and pick ups with my stick selection. Very satisfied in the end:
