My new custom Super Tacks arrived last week. Specs: 11EE/A and 10.75EE/A, oversized toe caps, black felt tongue, coated eyelets, full Clarino liner. I asked for no graphics, but they said it couldn't be done so I'll most likely remove them later on. The "outsole" vent is the same as the one on the jetspeed, not that boxy one on the retail skates. Baked them twice, skated in them once. So far, so good! Going to have my Tuuks put on later this week.

I've always said that caring about the quality of your work is the most important part of being a good sharpener. Oddly enough, I find most of the really good sharpeners are also the least likely to brag about it.

^^ It's not about how long you've been doing it, it's about how long you've been doing it well !! A dedicated mentor and you are on your way to learning. Practice, practice, practice.

I'm not going to say skate sharpening is easy but I don't agree with this idea that it takes years to master. It is a skill that takes practice to get started, confidence in your ability, and a work ethic to do the job right every time. Like any job, it is a matter of caring about what you do. It's not rocket appliances.

I believe a shop's reputation stands on it's sharpeners. For the sharpeners it should be a pride thing. For the customers that translates to a confidence thing. The quality of work from other rinks can be horrendous. I see it every weekend with out of town travel hockey players skates. This is one aspect that Sparx can take advantage of.

My daughter has Speed Plates in her Mako 2's and says there isn't enough of an improvement over stock insoles to warrant the effort. She likes them well enough to keep them in, though.

I did. It was awful. The hard edges of the speed plates dig into your feet and all responsiveness and feel between the holder and your foot is gone.

Won a pair of A6.0 SBP Gloves from TRUE! So far, they are fantastic! Love the Z-Pro palms.
