  1. Bidet seats are the bomb, ESPECIALLY if you just had a J-pouch/loop ileostomy closure surgery. Life is good 😄
  2. @Monty22 and @flip12 thanks for the clarification! Maybe this guy had it thrown onto a Supreme style boot. The holder and steel is the same, but no Nike swoosh on the boot.
  3. His boot looked like some 90s Supreme boot. I may have dreamt this, but somehow I remember the steel supposedly being stoopid difficult to sharpen on that particular holder.
  4. I love looking at gear. It’s the crazy stuff that was ahead of the game 25 plus years ago that is still in service that excites me. There is one guy I occasionally play with who has a pair of Bauers that have grey Tuuks with a funky looking black steel with triangular cut outs. I kinda remember those, but am sketchy on the details. I seem to remember that the steel was really difficult to sharpen. There’s also a guy who plays in a pair of what looks to be high-end leather Hespeler gloves with high cuffs in Rangers colours. They look damned near brand new. Are they Gretzky pro stocks? He always dresses in a different room and leaves before drop in is over, so I have not asked him the story. That is fascinating. I don’t tend to judge based on equipment unless somebody has something that is clearly unsafe, like the goalie wearing a street hockey mask (?!?). The goalie wearing a 30 year old chest protector and then bitches about the bruises is one I tend to judge. The guy wearing holey equipment bitching about getting hurt is another one. The bender who is kitted to the hilt with top end stuff? To me, that person is stylish. Haters are gonna hate... I have been long immune to the latest marketing. I like what is comfortable. I was jazzed when I found two NOS Easton aluminium shafts! New isn’t always better.
  5. 100% common sense- I get it. Again- why risk your investment if the best protection is available if you plan on taking it anywhere?
  6. You never know. I never saw that in the literature. A Pelican case is pretty well the gold standard in protection when it comes to sensitive micro mechanical machines like cameras; I would qualify a Sparx as such a machine even though it is the size of an old printer! Why risk your investment when the ultimate case is available?
  7. From my experience, that singular pass would be enough on black steel. Between the coating and the polishing processes, the edges are a touch harder than with plain steel.
  8. Exactly! I am not travelling with mine, so therefore- no case. The minute I ponder travelling with mine, that case will be ordered. Something like this deserves the best protection money can buy.
  9. $400 to protect a $1K investment is worth it IMO.
  10. Keep strong. I am sending good vibes your way ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  11. I will be doing an enquiry when I go to a dealer who has the goal boot on display. I will be confirming whether or not an Overdrive blade will fit on there. Thanks for reminding me to ask about shot blockers. My skates were originally cowlingless, but a shot hurt me (no broken bones) and I installed a cowling post haste.
  12. Bloody hell! How did they forget that?!? Sorry you’re spending ANOTHER night in hospital.
  13. Foam tape would work. A bit of Kemmeler’s foam (i.e. the original Maltese “gel”) would also work. You could actually make something out of fibreglass for the toe cap. I made shot blockers out of fibreglass from Autozone. They worked surprisingly well. Those fibreglass and resin kits are VERY forgiving. The best and easiest way to heat form is to make a plug of the item you’re heat forming, make a table with peg board material, rig it to take vacuum. The way I remember is to build a frame with a vacuum fitting on the bottom, pegboard for the top with some space between the top and bottom so vacuum can form. Then you’d have it running for the time you pull the heat pliable material and thrown it onto your vacuum former. It’s crude but works pretty well. You’d start with a cheaper material like lexan just to test your crude vacuum former. I did this years ago for making my own RC car bodies. I crashed them all the time and the racing rules required clean bodies, so I had to economise! Since the toe cap of a skate is a simple shape, it would be decently easy.
  14. Kydex is great for abrasion resistance as well as impact absorption. AND heat form able. Hmmmmm
  15. I guess the next question is this: can you spec more beef in the construction of your boot if you’re buying goalie boots? I can take care of that *if* needed; I’d rather they build it beefier than me adding my own protection. They will make it purtier than I; though my mould making skills are improving again. A mask may be finished as early as June as I almost have the shape I want and I will be refining the mould. Sorry for the digression. I’d rather not mod a brand new product if avoidable, besides the installation of a pair of Overdrives! Repair of the blade holder would be very easy if anything were to happen to it and that is actually making me feel better about buying the one piece.
  16. I hope this fixes the problem! Sending positive vibes, friend!
  17. It would not be all that hard to fix, frankly.
  18. I actually use it to prevent slipouts more than anything! John MacLeod, the Overdrive creator, moves with these in a way that one could only dream of. The one thing I loved about cowling-free was that these weren’t needed for me! Originally, they were developed because he sharpened his skates beyond sharpening (pre-replaceable runners on cowlings). A young Jonathan Quick used these back in the day.
  19. Or @Nicholas G, it was explained by a more eloquent guy. ^
  20. In essence, they go on the outsole and prevent slippage and help movement in the crease. Once you experience them, it all comes together. Not my website, by the way. I just sell the blades at my sharpening business.
  21. Yesterday was a real test for the J-pouch. Let’s just say that what the surgeon warned me about came true in spades. I hope today is a better day!
  22. Looking into the one piece goalie skate. Of course I have to see if I could install an Overdrive blade on the skate; if so- it will be bought for my business! I have to have a pair to show that it can be done! Bwahaha!!! Anywho- I will be very interested in seeing how the scan process will be compared to the tracing process. I am kind of hoping they could refer to how my last boot was built, as it is damned close to perfection! Do they still take into account all of your sore spots? Has anyone here ordered the one piece goal skate? If so, how do you like it?
  23. 15 minutes is an eternity as far as warm up. Not from the standpoint of being too long, but just from the standpoint that usually warmups are five minutes max. I have found that getting in the reps is what I needed as far as tracking the puck, i.e. glove, blocker, right and left pads as well as the body shots.
  24. Thank you. I am just bitter enough that I will have to keep fighting! I am in a LOT of pain right now.
  25. Just had my possibly last surgery for closing my loop illeostomy. This is supposed to be the easiest one. Needless to say this had been rough. Bleeding out my bum, pain meds barely touching the pain, puking after having an ice lolly and getting a straight catheter every few hours has been less that fun. Ugh.
