Nearly a year later, and I ended up waiting until this past April for my loop ileostomy closure. At six weeks, I started doing stick and puck. I have gone twice and am already wanting to graduate to drop in. Now that I have no more bag, getting dressed is considerably easier. No more extra equipment or anything. Now just to get some reps!

The new, athletic position of goalie
bunnyman666 replied to bunnyman666's topic in General Goalie Discussion
Fast forward to game 7 of the Cup Finals, and drop ‘n’ block has returned and is here to stay. There was a slight return to athletic play, but drop ‘n’ block is still preferred method of play. The chesties got better, but scoring has increased from other means. I hope the scoring has increased enough to satiate the powers that be so they stop fiddling with our equipment. -
That blows!!! I had a roommate that thought EVERY nurse was his waitress. Add to that the nurse was telling him how coccaine was not good for his heart as he always called for his waitress/nurse! 11:50 in the evening eating cereal would make me nuts!!!! Please stay strong, okay?

Sorry so late to the party. If the pants are designed to tuck your chest protector, then there is at least 4 plus inches additional waist to allow for tucking. Goal pants don’t fit even close to how player pants do. If the line is anatomical with chest protector out, it is closer to true to size, but the fit is, in general more generous than player pants.

If any of you have been thinking about this and need the extra push, here’s my push: DO IT!!!! I use the coating on my runners and the Overdrive blades I sell. I have two pairs out in the wild and am VERY happy with the performance and aesthetics. As far as the performance on runners- I can’t get a burr, even when running my Sparx on a 10 run cycle! Step Black does leave a sliver of metal that is easily removed. There is magic in that coating, and I will be recommending sharpening customers buy the Step polished steel and having Monty coat them. As far as service goes- Monty runs a ship like I do: reasonable wait times, always hitting the target within a day on either side. He lets you know what is going on, and I have never had to chase him down. There is a reason why he is touted on this site, as this is still the gold standard of hockey fora. In short- Monty offers great product with service to match.

I will pay for superior materials, flawless construction, and a few features. For me, Mammoth fit the bill. Yes- it came with kitschy things like a bottle opener, but the premium features like the aluminium handles, seat belt straps and the like made it a fantastic bag for me. I would like a bag constructed like the Mammoth but very simple when I buy again. I paid plenty for it, but it isn’t falling apart. I surmise the next time I buy will be quite a ways away.

This is something that really was invented for a completely different purpose but is definitely applicable to everyone. I could have used this years back, as well! You sir, are correct!

Those are not it, but I do recall a few versions of the true pro Hespeler gloves. Something makes me think they were manufactured to spec by someone else (such as the Eagle factory) as I don’t recall any good, top level gear from that company for a long time even before then. I may be wrong here, or as I say, “the somestimer’s is really strong”.

Tellin’ ya what- a bidet can change your life!

Bidet seats are the bomb, ESPECIALLY if you just had a J-pouch/loop ileostomy closure surgery. Life is good 😄

I love looking at gear. It’s the crazy stuff that was ahead of the game 25 plus years ago that is still in service that excites me. There is one guy I occasionally play with who has a pair of Bauers that have grey Tuuks with a funky looking black steel with triangular cut outs. I kinda remember those, but am sketchy on the details. I seem to remember that the steel was really difficult to sharpen. There’s also a guy who plays in a pair of what looks to be high-end leather Hespeler gloves with high cuffs in Rangers colours. They look damned near brand new. Are they Gretzky pro stocks? He always dresses in a different room and leaves before drop in is over, so I have not asked him the story. That is fascinating. I don’t tend to judge based on equipment unless somebody has something that is clearly unsafe, like the goalie wearing a street hockey mask (?!?). The goalie wearing a 30 year old chest protector and then bitches about the bruises is one I tend to judge. The guy wearing holey equipment bitching about getting hurt is another one. The bender who is kitted to the hilt with top end stuff? To me, that person is stylish. Haters are gonna hate... I have been long immune to the latest marketing. I like what is comfortable. I was jazzed when I found two NOS Easton aluminium shafts! New isn’t always better.

Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener

100% common sense- I get it. Again- why risk your investment if the best protection is available if you plan on taking it anywhere? -

You never know. I never saw that in the literature. A Pelican case is pretty well the gold standard in protection when it comes to sensitive micro mechanical machines like cameras; I would qualify a Sparx as such a machine even though it is the size of an old printer! Why risk your investment when the ultimate case is available? -

From my experience, that singular pass would be enough on black steel. Between the coating and the polishing processes, the edges are a touch harder than with plain steel. -

Exactly! I am not travelling with mine, so therefore- no case. The minute I ponder travelling with mine, that case will be ordered. Something like this deserves the best protection money can buy. -

$400 to protect a $1K investment is worth it IMO. -
Keep strong. I am sending good vibes your way ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I will be doing an enquiry when I go to a dealer who has the goal boot on display. I will be confirming whether or not an Overdrive blade will fit on there. Thanks for reminding me to ask about shot blockers. My skates were originally cowlingless, but a shot hurt me (no broken bones) and I installed a cowling post haste. -
Bloody hell! How did they forget that?!? Sorry you’re spending ANOTHER night in hospital.

Foam tape would work. A bit of Kemmeler’s foam (i.e. the original Maltese “gel”) would also work. You could actually make something out of fibreglass for the toe cap. I made shot blockers out of fibreglass from Autozone. They worked surprisingly well. Those fibreglass and resin kits are VERY forgiving. The best and easiest way to heat form is to make a plug of the item you’re heat forming, make a table with peg board material, rig it to take vacuum. The way I remember is to build a frame with a vacuum fitting on the bottom, pegboard for the top with some space between the top and bottom so vacuum can form. Then you’d have it running for the time you pull the heat pliable material and thrown it onto your vacuum former. It’s crude but works pretty well. You’d start with a cheaper material like lexan just to test your crude vacuum former. I did this years ago for making my own RC car bodies. I crashed them all the time and the racing rules required clean bodies, so I had to economise! Since the toe cap of a skate is a simple shape, it would be decently easy. -

Kydex is great for abrasion resistance as well as impact absorption. AND heat form able. Hmmmmm
