  1. LOL I took a hard shot off my foot with the cowling-free skate which led me to hastily take off the old holder and install a Vaughn cowling. I have enough steel for a few years. I will end up making my new cowls (to go under the new holder) because I just don’t trust the boot to protect me. But the boot fits me WONDERFULLY, so I make allowances. But a better executed quick removal runner is great.
  2. Will this new holder have goalie runners available, as well or would we goalies be stuck with the old holders?
  3. And I hope you did not take it as me calling it snake oil AT ALL. I had wondered how long it was going to take to work with biomechanics on skates. It had to be there. When getting fitted on my bike, incremental differences resulted in wattage gains. If I skated out, you had BETTER BELIEVE that I would get a skate fitting from you. I believe in proper biomechanical alignment 100%.
  4. No- I won’t disagree with that statement AT ALL. But the concepts are equally important. I had a $1000 fitting that was considerably more complicated than what 9/10 shoppes could carry out with an old, dusty fit kit. Keep in mind that I was trying to make my daily bread with the cycling part of duathlon and triathlon. They measured VO2 max, wattage with subtle position changes, and tweaking my position in the Texas A&M wind tunnel. So I would say my fitting was a bit more involved than my bike on a wind trainer and the guy fumbling through the dusty fit kit.
  5. Frankly, I am surprised it took as long as it has for this to happen. In the worlds of road and track cycling, cleat alignment and fitting to biomechanics has been going on for a very, very long time. Good on them for finally doing something. No, this does not even hint at being snake oil.
  6. More play in goal post-op. Getting a bit of my stamina back, though penalty shots in stick and puck are particularly exhausting. Even lopsided play in your own end in goal or half-ice, single goalie play is not quite as exhausting as penalty shot after penalty shot after penalty shot. In the end, I am still having to keep in mind that I have had THREE major surgeries in eleven months and I am only three months post op. So I need to keep this in mind.
  7. And he got to wear his white skates again!!!! David’s still in the league; haven’t heard from Andy Murray. Congrats to David Perron!!!!!
  8. I just read your story. You’ve been through a lot. Good on you for trying to get back to doing what you love!
  9. Certainly. There are just so many scenario that can play out in composite construction. What many don’t know is that the pretty outside layer does not necessarily indicate everything going on with composites. One bicycle frame I had built, the customer wanted it as “raw as possible”. I pulled a face and asked if he was CERTAIN. He said we was, UNTIL he saw it with no fillers, no cosmetic layer, just raw, unadulterated, hand-built composite, tubes, shells and assemblies glued together and carbon taped. He said, and I quote “it looks like a high school shop project”. My response was simple: “there is a LOT that goes on to purty up a piece of composite, let alone multiple pieces. He then accepted my answer and I had to strip all of the matte finish and hand-lay my finish. One positive? I DID develop an even cooler, abrasion-resistant outer finish from that process! It is still technically one piece when components are fused together and finished with a finish layer; after all- none of the pieces could function on their own. Then only TRUE one-piece boot would be filament wound, which would be HORRENDOUSLY expensive, not to mention impractical!
  10. It may very well be a clamshell/bladder mould.
  11. I am assuming correctly that fat goalie steel would be available for that holder for those of us buying the True in goalie flavour?
  12. Why pay all that dosh when you see better in front of your own tele and you could buy a CASE of beer for the price of ONE?!? You can buy a LOT of goalie gear for the price of some of these tickets! #proudcheapskate
  13. You’re right about loose penalty standards in game 7s in general. Which takes me back to goaltender interference in the Sabres/Stars series and Hull’s blade was in the crease on like the 2nd overtime...
  14. Game sevens generally fly in the face of statistics and convention. Statistically, it could go the Blues way; momentum-wise, it could go to the Bruins. It still is ANYONE’S game. I am not counting ANYONE out. Officiating could swing it. A bad bounce can swing it; ice is squirrelly this time of year. The Bruins play well with their back against the wall; the Blues tend to bounce back in commanding fashion after a loss. So- it STILL is anyone’s game on Wednesday. Who shows up? We’ll see... I am not going to pretend that I am not a Blues fan; I am PROUDLY a Blues fan since 1972-73. But this has been a super-weird season and playoffs. Whomever hoists the Cup at centre ice Wednesday (or dare I say early Thursday morning) will have earned it, blown calls and all. Only the Tour de France is tougher than the Stanley Cup, and not by much.
  15. Nearly a year later, and I ended up waiting until this past April for my loop ileostomy closure. At six weeks, I started doing stick and puck. I have gone twice and am already wanting to graduate to drop in. Now that I have no more bag, getting dressed is considerably easier. No more extra equipment or anything. Now just to get some reps!
  16. Fast forward to game 7 of the Cup Finals, and drop ‘n’ block has returned and is here to stay. There was a slight return to athletic play, but drop ‘n’ block is still preferred method of play. The chesties got better, but scoring has increased from other means. I hope the scoring has increased enough to satiate the powers that be so they stop fiddling with our equipment.
  17. That blows!!! I had a roommate that thought EVERY nurse was his waitress. Add to that the nurse was telling him how coccaine was not good for his heart as he always called for his waitress/nurse! 11:50 in the evening eating cereal would make me nuts!!!! Please stay strong, okay?
  18. I will pay for superior materials, flawless construction, and a few features. For me, Mammoth fit the bill. Yes- it came with kitschy things like a bottle opener, but the premium features like the aluminium handles, seat belt straps and the like made it a fantastic bag for me. I would like a bag constructed like the Mammoth but very simple when I buy again. I paid plenty for it, but it isn’t falling apart. I surmise the next time I buy will be quite a ways away.
  19. This is something that really was invented for a completely different purpose but is definitely applicable to everyone. I could have used this years back, as well! You sir, are correct!
  20. Those are not it, but I do recall a few versions of the true pro Hespeler gloves. Something makes me think they were manufactured to spec by someone else (such as the Eagle factory) as I don’t recall any good, top level gear from that company for a long time even before then. I may be wrong here, or as I say, “the somestimer’s is really strong”.
  21. Tellin’ ya what- a bidet can change your life!
  22. I won’t be back for awhile, but he is there a lot so I will most likely see him when I am cleared to play. I seem to recall branding more like the above photo, but I may not be remembering correctly 😉He also wears an original Protech cage on a very old HT2 (with foam side bumpers).
