  1. With skates of that size, I would recommend single radius profiles. Personally, I like starting them at a 15ft profile at that size.
  2. Hate those stupid bolts. Too many times have I lost them when changing out steel on the bench. I wish Flare would make steel for the VH/True holder. I really love that holder. It's incredibly stiff and rigid.
  3. People should stop wasting time with all of the gimmick stuff and just use Flare steel. Biggest change I have ever made in my life when it comes to tinkering with equipment. Just waiting for the new CCM holders to go GA and for Flare to be released for them and I'll be set for the future. Need to get these Tuuks off my Trues ASAP.
  4. In Seattle, we have a lot of people who own Sparx sharpeners but they rarely ever bring them to the rink. I have seent hem take them on road trips though.
  5. Regular steel is very good. I prefer the TIN and DLC steel of their though. The downside is that the TIN steel is gold in color which some people might dislike.
  6. I hear the same story from other places as well but all of these stores were VERY negative on Sparx machines saying there were unreliable and broke often.
  7. Those are some excellent looking eyelets! @BelangerJS
  8. Was very surprised that last week while I was in Arizona for the entire week every shop that had a Sparx sharpener in store said they were either not working, having issues, or needed maintenance. Not a single shop of the 5 I went to had a fully functional and working unit....
  9. I never measured such but I would say its about the same. Both of their wheels are about the same level of hardness.
  10. Doesn't mean they will still deliver though....
  11. Very high-quality steel and the best DLC coating on the market. Love their stuff. The downside is they are always delayed with shipping and their customer service has been poor.
  12. The True skate is stiff enough for most players so unless you are a VERY big guy I just dont see a benefit in them. I weigh 195lbs with a 23 BMI and am a very strong skater. I would not recommend the shot blockers to anyone unless they exceed 275lbs in weight.
  13. The home model, 1500 passes, the pro model is about 2000 passes. This is based on the historical data I have collected from our own sharpeners.
  14. Shot blockers, not worth it. T-Guard tongue, worth it.
  15. Got my 2017/2018 Bauer Vapor 1x pro-stock skates this weekend. With steel, they weigh in at 884 grams vs my 2018 True skates, without shot blockers, with Tuuks holders and the same steel, which tip the scales at 952 grams.
  16. I never back any of the kickstarter projects, the rate for failure is too high. I read somewhere that only 10% fail but then another independent study showed it was more like 50%.
  17. It really depends on what you are looking to enhance or change. What works and doesn't for your specific skating style. There is no "best for everyone" profile.
  18. Ive added my own comfort edge to skates that players have needed it. Not very many have needed such. It is amazing. But everyone is different and some are more patient than others.
  19. No, the shop is just ignorant. It's full of boxes and old gear covered in dust.
  20. If he wears them enough and does some dryland he will adjust. I agree they are heavier than Mako II and others but it is, in fact, a pro spec skate. Once you add extra protection and such everything weighs about the same. I really do hope Bauer incorporates a lot fo the Mako into the next Vapor skate.
