Crosby is not the only player still using that hodler, Subban is another. If you look around you will see quite a few guys preferring to use that holder over TUUK or newer CCM holders. That holder is very stiff and some of the players like that it sits a little lower to the ice vs the newer holders. Also, I have seen Crosby change his lacing a few times. Typically he drops the top eyelet but my understanding was when he switched to a newer boot he had them cut with a shorter ankle and he started to do a lace lock with the top eyelets, skipping one from the top.

+1 on both. With TRUE skates you barely need to take the slack out of the skates. Also, do NOT use waxed laces. -

That looks good. Not too much, not too little. No need to put it on the bottom. -
SWOT - Super Light Senior Shoulder Pad
VegasHockey replied to VegasHockey's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Yes, very light but a little bulky too. -
Just to reiterate. Stiff doesnt = fast. Proper form = fast. Look at the mechanics of Crosby, McDavid and Mackinnon and you can see they are all wearing skates that are stiff enough to support their movements but they do not rely on the boot itself for stability. I think a lot of this has to be with players using their hips more instead of using their legs, like comparing Jagr vs McDavid skating styles.

You basically answered your own question. If they build the shim into the skate it will not be removable but if you have external lifts added you can add, remove, or adjust them if needed. I always recommend external vs internal because of of such. -
Take some time off. It might be good to step away for a bit. The good news is you can always come back 🙂

That stuff is fine. You can also go to Home Depot or Lowes and get it too. Its pretty easy to find just about anywhere. -
Some players tend to rely on the stiffness of the skate boot to compensate for lack of skill or ankle strength. Too often I have parents wanting to buy their young kids top of the line youth/junior skates that are very stiff. I have to spend considerable time talking them out of spending money on something that may prevent their children from properly developing the correct muscles and edge control organically. In their mind, expensive means better and they want to get their kids the best tools available. Too foten I see them flexing the skate collar comparing a pair of AS1 vs a pair of Ribcor and they say the Ribcor is cheap without understanding specifically why the Ribcor is designed with flexibility.

The shrink wrap method will remove all negative space if you do enough wraps so you shouldn't need to use the clamps. Just have them keep going around until it feels super snug, then wrap it one more time. -

Hey, if it works thats all I care about. lol -
Yes, if you are a bigger guy a softer skate may not support your weight properly.

Weird. PM me your order number and I will see what I can find out. What store location did you go to? -
https://www.swothockey.com/product-page/copy-of-super-light-sr-shoulder-pad Anyone ever seen these in person? They look like a decent option for those wanting some shoulder/chest protection in a breathable and light package.

I find the weight difference between my two pairs of TRUE skates significant, almost 0.4lbs per skate. -

Honestly, you won't even notice the steel because the holder is so much taller. It's dramatically taller than a TUUK or CCM holder and very stiff. I would rather have the weight reduction than extra steel and a weight penalty. Also, that is why TRUE provides two pairs of steel with the new skates too which I think is nice. Overall, I have been very impressed with it. I have the bad luck of getting shot often at games, no idea why, maybe cause I like to park in front of the net. On our game the other night I got blasted a few times in the feet and holder and I am thankful that I has TRUE skates. If I was wearing my others I may have had a broken foot. Trust me, have someone like Shane Doan taking clap bombs in your direction all game is scary enough to keep you awake all night. -

This stuff is my jam! I use it on so many things at the shop. It also works great on stick butt-ends too. After you tape your stick it just put a light coat on. I haven't tried it on a blade, yet, but I use very little tape on my blade anyway. https://www.amazon.com/Gardner-Bender-07315001126-LTB-400-Electrical/dp/B000FPAN2K/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_263_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=R1DY4WA08ZC4EWWRQB5G I have been going back and forth with the speed plates in this iteration of the skates and the factory insoles. I find they both have their positives and negatives. I am still testing to see which I prefer. -
Tacks 910?

You could just use a dremel and cut out the spaces between the holes. That's what I did on my J clips.

I just hit my 60th hour of use on the newly revised TRUE skates and figured I would post pics of how they are holding up. Overall, for the amount of abuse they take they still look nearly new, aside from the nasty gash I took on one skates holder and a gash I got on the other skate. I put some super glue on it temporarily but will clean it up. The cut was more cosmetic than anything but I didn't want that piece of pleather flapping around. I skate 5-6 times a week. I play on one team in an elite league and sub for a team in another lower division. I also skate drop-in 2-3 times weekly and coach as well so it's fair to use these skates see a decent amount of abuse. I dont know why, but I seem to be a puck magnet and my feet are always getting hammered by shots. Some might ask, why are my insoles black on the heel area, I like to put some rubber grip on them, I have done this for longer than I can remember and while the TRUE skates lock your heel in and it's not really needed old habits die hard. -
Did you put this on a Bauer or CCM helmet?
